I've had this hat since 2008, when I took a job in the desert Southwest. It is very comfortable and breathable, and blocks the sun very well. I love dunking it in water in the hot afternoon.

I would like to point out that the tag line for this product describes it as "Cotton sun protection for hot, dry climates." Key word is "dry" - the material may be a bit thick for the Midwestern or Southeastern USA heat. It is, however, perfect for the desert Southwest.

I live the south east and the humidity is harsh. This hat is comfortable and great in the spring time but summer humidity with it on is unbearable. I also own the sombriolet, it has it's down sides too (brim has a mind of its own, flimsy). The brims on all there hat except the Seattle cannot be adjusted and are flimsy in the wind. No one that designs outdoor clothes(HATS) must have never been to the south east or tropic jungle. Yes, I have i have traveled to many uncomfortable climates (ARMY). Of all choices out there OR has the best but still need improvment.

My head, as measured above the eyebrows, is 24 1/8" - wondering if the xl will fit, i.e, is the sizing conservative? Also, what is the brim size in the xl?

  The measurements are true to size. Depending on how low you wear the hat on your head it may fit. The XL has a circumference of 24". The brim is 2 3/4".

Q:
I'm torn between getting this Transit hat or the Sombriolet that you also offer. For me it will the the XL in size either way. Given that, are the brim diameters comparible or is one wider than the other?

Also, I can't quite tell from the pictures, but this hat has a more flatter top section compared to the Sombriolet's rounder top portion, correct?

  The Transit Sun Hat has a foam stiffened brim, so it is packable and will resume shape when unpacked. I'd recommend never keeping it packed for too long, particularly if you are storing it for the season.

  Our Halo Sombrero has magnets on the brim and dome, allowing you to put the sides of the hat up when you don't need as much sun protection.

  The Transit Hat should maintain its shape after getting wet. If you do have issues with the hat our Infinite Guarantee ensures that you can exchange/ replace the old hat for a new one.

  The mesh on the sides do not provide as much protection as the cotton/spandex fabric on the top, front and back. It will help block the sun, but will not provide the full 50 UPF protection as with the rest of the hat.
