Testing this peice as anOR Alpine Ambassador am excited about the potential this Jacket has for my upcoming winter in San Juans Colorado and spring as I return to the Alaska Range. I was able to test this Jacket on some alpine ice guiding in the Cascades while guiding on Rainier during a storm. The temps where below freezing (10-20F) while guiding the Kautz Glacier Route. I was able to dump heat well while super active during the pitch and retain my heat during the belay while my clients followed. Also I will be defiantly taking this layer again to Logan 2013. This is a great cold weather expedition action suit when it hits the fan in the Yukon. The breathability of the Polartec Power Shield and synch hood certainly was fantastic piece to endure the storm but dump heat while digging to protect camp.

I see this as a great go to jacket for Waterfall Ice climbing on a cold day or moderate cold day allowing you step down in the puff weight you carry or dump it all together.

Also I'm excited to use it on cold ski tours
(-10F -10F) and not be switching jackets at all for the down.

Finally a newer fabric that is holding well thus far. Its built to last by using Polartec Power Shield Pro to give you durable protection.

I recommend this piece and a great new addition to the OR alpine line.

Is there a similar product for women? I know many women use men's soft shells on ice, but I am very petite and only have a 26in waist and 33in chest. I think the men's small will be too big for me.

I am looking for a everyday Jacket in the winter that can also be used with a waterproof shell as the insulating layer on long winter hikes and/or ski trips. My question is...
1.Does it make sense to use this with the AXIOM JACKET as the insulating layer?
2. Will this preform as well as the RADIANT HYBRID JACKET in terms or warmth and moisture control when used as the insulating layer with the AXIOM JACKET ?

  The Lodestar Jacket is designed to be worn alone, but in general could be used as a layering piece. The Lodestar will be warmer than the Radiant if worn as a layering piece.

This is a Jacket that I have my eyes very close on, and I was wondering how well it functions in the pouring down rain in the PNW.? Along with climbing, I am an avid backpacker (even in all winter months here in Wa) and I am looking for a jacket that I can use whether I am backpacking in the rain, or high up on a glacier. This jacket appears to be a good hybrid for both, but I cant find any temperature ratings on it.

  Any Soft shell piece is deigned to protect the athlete from loosing heat from the elements but not retaining it when it's is abundant. In order to achieve this OR can't make it waterproof to be designed for pouring down rain.
  
  Even the best waterproof fabrics from Gore has a hard time with prolonged exposure to PNW rain. The best jacket or fabric that I have found for your expectations and application would be the Axiom with Gore Active Shell. It dumps heat and is mostly waterproof for light PNW showers. http://www.outdoorresearch.com/en/mens-axiom-jacket.html
  
  This is not a good hybrid Jacket for the uses you suggest but better Hybrid jacket for Action bellow freezing in the High Alpine

  The Lodestar is very warm, technical piece for cold, high-alpine climbing. If you are looking for something to keep you dry in a PNW downpour while you are backpacking, I would suggest layering with a shell like the Foray or Paladin.
