These are truly great pants, I have had a pair for a couple years now that I use hiking all year round (Green). Wanted another green pair, on the web site canteen appears to be green, but when received they are actually brown... Call the colors what they are instead of making up names... canteen? mushroom? come on.

I was actually very hesitant to try a new brand of convertible pants as I really liked the brand that I had been using for years, Mountain Hardware's Matterhorn pants. I wound up finding a pair of OR Equinox Convertible pants on sale so I decided to buy a pair and try them out. I am glad I did as I absolutely love them.

First and foremost I love the fit. I am not sure if its because of the sizing or the actual design but the Equinox simply fit me better in the legs and all of the featured that I loved about the Matterhorn are also present with the Equinox. Drawcords for the ankles, UPF 50 sun protection, gusseted crotch, DWR finish, ankle zippers, integrated belt, and front & rear pockets.

I do miss the chamois lined waist line but the colored zippers more than make up for it. Its a brilliant idea and it makes the process of zipping the legs back on VASTLY easier. Its a simple idea but extremely effective. It wouldn't surprise me in the least to see other companies pick up on this idea.

I wound up using my Equinox on a recent trip to Bryce Canyon and it was a great chance to use them side by side with my Matterhorns. By the end of the trip I was fully sold on the Equinox. They dried faster, were better suited towards hot weather, and were all around more comfortable to wear, especially during activities like backpacking. It rained very lightly a couple of days and the Equinox performed flawlessly in regards to keeping me dry. I have yet to test them in a serious downpour.

Of course to not mention how great they look would be criminal as they look amazing and have a great selection of colors. They have a very clean look and can just as easily be worn around town. In fact, I would estimate that 50% of the time I wear them is for casual activities.

Bottom line - The Equinox Convertible Pants are amazing and I will be adding many more pairs to my wardrobe in the coming months and years. If you like convertible pants then you owe it to yourself to give the Equinox a try.

What is inseam length on size 36 equinox zip off pants.
Is the material the same as your sodo shirt.
Asked on 3/20/2011 by Jim from Mission Viejo, ca

            1 answer

            • Outdoor Research Employees

              A:

Thank you for your question. The inseam length for the pants in size 36 is 33". The inseam length for the converted shorts in size 36 is 9.5". The material used on the Equinox pants is Supplex nylon and has a very light, soft feel. The SoDo shirt is also nylon and is slightly "heartier" than the Equinox Convert Pants. Please let us know if you have any further questions.
