    Comments about W's Misto Sombrero:

As a professional gardener in Seattle, I needed a super functional rain hat, and this one delivers. I really like how the brim is stiff all the way around with a stylish flair. It washes well which is important since a gardening rain hat = mud all over. I also don't seem to get hat hair with this one, and it comes in a large enough size for me. I'm even using it for a sun hat, although I haven't road tested the black color all season yet. I'm very pleased with this one. All of my colleagues are envious.

    • Q:

How does the dome size compare to the Seattle Sombrero?
Asked on 3/26/2013 by Adan Munoz from San Antonio, TX

        A:

Adan - the Mist Sombrero has a very similar dome size to the Seattle. The dome circumference is the same in the small (55) and medium (57), but the large is slightly different. The Seattle circumference is 60 where the Misto is a 59.

      Q:

Which of your rain hats are good for rain showers (intermittent) and 80+ degree weather? Additionally, are any of these rain hats packable (rollable)? Are their sun hats that are water proof?

      Thank you. Happy trekking.

        A:

For waterproofness and packability, I would recommend our LightStorm Bucket. It is a our lightest weight rain hat and will be the easiest to roll up and stow in your pocket or pack while hiking. Our sun hats are made of a nylon blend fabric which would have light weather resistance but none are waterproof.

      Q:

What is the difference between the Misto Sombrero and the Nimbus Sombrero? Is the Nimbus Sombrero still available?
      Asked on 8/6/2011 by Anonymous

      1 answer

      • Outdoor Research Employees

        A:

The Nimbus Sombrero is no longer available. The Misto Sombrero is made with the Gore-Tex waterproof/breathable fabric while the Nimbus uses OR's Ventia waterproof/breathable material. Also, the nimbus had snaps on the side of the hat, making it possible to raise the sides of the brim for dryer days. The closes option to the Nimbus at this time is our Halo Sombrero (http://www.outdoorresearch.com/site/halo_sombrero.html).

      Q:

Does this hat flip up in wind? I'm looking for a hat that can withstand rain, sun and wind while sailing on high mountain lakes with out exposing the elements to my eyes.

      • Outdoor Research Employees

        A:

This hat has a foam stiffened brim which helps it keep its shape, even in windy conditions. The misto sombrero is a great option for protection in the exact conditions that you describe.

      Q:

How tight should this hat fit?
      Asked on 4/28/2011 by Anonymous

      1 answer

      • Outdoor Research Employees

        A:

The Misto should be tight enough that it will not come off in strong weather, while still being comfortable. It has an external drawcord for additional adjustment if needed.
