Designed specifically for snowshoeing, the Huron Gaiters High provide both a solid seal against deep snow and an extra layer of insulation when you're on the move in winter weather. The waterproof, breathable Pertex® Shield fabric upper charges through snowdrifts, and the laminated neoprene lower extends over the toe to keep the elements out and the heat in. huron gaiters a positive step (Review by climbingshanman)

I recently purchased the Huron high gaiters with the upcoming showshoe season in mind. I had other disciplines in mind as well when I saw their design. One was for snow biking. The other, regular rain and snowy day commuting. Today I tried them during a cold rainy commute of about 3k.

Before I tell the tale, let's talk construction. These are designed with a pertex shell upper, a neoprene enclosure , and what appears to be a hypalon patch under the toe box. The latter detail is what sets this product apart from OR's other offerings, and is designed to keep snow from getting in against your boots. Oh, there's a storm flapped and Velcro sealed zipper and beefy under the arch strap to secure these to your feet and shanks.
So I wore them on a wet and rainy late November ride, wearing casual leather high cut shoes underneath.
My consensus once I got to work was that my feet did remain dry despite the constant down pour and puddle splashes. As for the claims in the description of sealing your boot completely, I have my doubts. I've only seen one model of gaiter that really does seal against the shoe, and for it to be truly effective, needs to be glued to the boot. It uses a Stealth rubber compound that wraps around the base of the boot.

I have to give kudos to OR for the Hypalon material used in the under foot section. Tough stuff for sure. Built to last.
