- Good Jacket... But Could Be Great! (Review by Juskuz)
I purchased this jacket fully knowing what I was getting into. As it is, the Helium HD is a great lightweight jacket. It made well, fits well, and does everything you'd expect it to. It's nothing special. However, I'd like to make a suggestion...
What I really want from OR is a Helium type jacket, with torso flow venting that stops just below the arm pits, a halo hood, chest and hand pockets, drawcord waist, adjustable cuffs with elastic, and molded (vislon type) zippers throughout.
Or... go out an make something even more awesome than the jacket I envision. But, just consider that some people want a jacket that's as light as possible, but doesn't skimp on features.
The Helium HD is close... But why ditch the elastic in the cuffs? Also... pit zips were included, but why not TorsoFlo? This is one of your best features and you could end them just below the armpits. No one ever opens them up further than that anyway. And get rid of all the coil zippers. They're crap... molded zips are the only way to go. I'd gladly take a 10 or 10.5 oz jacket with these features.
I want the jacket I want to be as light and as functional as possible. I hate having to choose between an awesome jacket that's heavy, and a compromised jacket that's light.

- Great jacket (Review by AMTC)
I have owned this jacket for a little over a year. I have been caught in rain, sleet, high winds and hail. It has performed very well each time. The only thing I would change is adding a strap to secure the hood.

- Great shell, easy to pack (Review by Jared )
Came in handy for getting caught in a rain storm in Boston. Jacket was great at keeping me dry. The fit of the jacket allows for a good range of motion and does not restrict movement. The ability to compact the jacket into itself allows one to keep it on them at all times. I have one to throw in a backpack just in case, as well as putting one in a Bug-out bag without taking up much space.

- Perfect (Review by Derek)
Just got my jacket size XL. Perfect fit for 6" 4" 230 pounds with tall torso. Packs down small in its own pocket. Spent a half hour in torrential downpour at amusement park. My wallet and phone were bone dry in pockets. Works perfect, great hood for visibility. Love it.

- My new go to shell (Review by traileric)
Last weekend we got a few heavy doses of Cascade showers during our hike. Wind blown rain while toiled up a trail so steep I could reach out and touch it. I got to the top and was amazed to be dry inside my Helium HD. My previous shells were waterproof but held in the sweat from the workout like a steamy tamale. Not the Helium HD! It really delivers on waterproof and breathable. It has all adjustments and features of much heavier shells. The hood fits great. All the seams and zippers work well. OR put it all into such a light shell. This is in my pack for every hike and xc ski.!

- An incredible shell! (Review by traileq)
This jacket was so light when I pulled it out of the box! I was surprised to find a full featured rain shell.A fully adjustable hood, pit zips, lots of pockets. The fit is great with sleeves long enough to pull my hands in. I've use it on a few rainy trails. 40 degrees, wind whipped rain on top of Mt. Townsend. No views but with the HD shell over my R1 base I was snug all through lunch and the hike back to the tree line. The combination of this shell with a great base layer is an excellent experience. Everything is well made and feels like it will last for years.

- Winner (Review by Blake)
This is a great jacket. I used to use a Marmot Mica and the Helium HD beats it hands down. Longer pit zips, better pocket placement, and a hood that actually holds its form. Brilliant. I gave the Mica to my father-in-law and thanks to OR I do not need to find another rain jacket. It will be with me on all my trips into Glacier National Park.

- Great Product (Review by momoneymoGEAR)
I bought the black large, I'm 6'2" 180 slender athletic build, 32" waist, 39" chest with a long torso, fits great. The jacket has a slim fit, but enough room for me to layer comfortably underneath with my Patagonia Nano puff, a microdown or fleece vest, and thin base layers. I like things to fit kinda tight and this is perfect for me. Not restricting, but not loose either. One complaint is that the arms run a bit long. I have long arms and these seemed just a tad too long. The velcro makes it fine though, so its definitely not a deal breaker. The material is a perfect medium between a typical rain jacket, and those see through uber lightweight rain shells. It's very light and packs nicely into its own pocket (about the size of an orange), but feels like it could stand up to branches and other trail abuse if need be. Some people have been asking about the hood being helmet compatible. I have not tested this, but there is a lot of room up there, and if your wearing a smallish helmet (mountaineering or smaller ski) you should not have a problem. Water and wind resistance has been perfect, completely dry and warm on hikes/fishing up in the rockies, even in downpours. It looks great, the blue OR on the lapel is a good accent. I probably would have gotten the blue if I want going to use it mostly while I fly fish. All in all, this is a FANTASTIC LITTLE JACKET, and whenever I am out anywhere from now on, this little ass kicker will be with me.
**LIGHT AND PACKABLE**
Warranty (OR rocks in this department)
(Guessing) Odd fit for someone with a gut...just sayin...

- Blown Away! (Review by andasound)
I have used rain jackets from Marmot for years and I decided to get a new jacket. My first thought was the Super Mica from Marmot, but I decided to give this new product a try. I saw the review of the Helium II on OutdoorGearLab and the only thing I wanted was a jacket with more features. The Helium HD is that jacket. It is super light, comfy, breathable, and performs better than any rain jacket I have ever used. I had to guess on ordering the correct size because I am normally between a medium and a large. I ordered the large and it fit perfectly. OR has won me over and I can't wait to get more of their products!

- Best Shell Ever (Review by Brian)
This shell is great for biking, hiking, splitboarding, or everyday wear. It packs away into it's own breast pocket. I leave it in my pannier for my everyday commute to school. The hood tightens around my skull for a custom fit. I used it while biking in snow/ice in Montana. I was complete dry, works best with a lite puffy or fleece for warmth. Recommend for anyone that wants a reliable shell for every activity.
