Like their namesakes, Crocs have been around forever. And because they're tough as nails, they've hardly changed. The instep strap is replaceable, and an additional tab holds the front opening down, but otherwise they remain as they were when they first appeared. The fitted design and durable, waterproof fabrics are as effective now as ever.

Comments about Outdoor Research W's Crocodiles:

These are the best gaiters on the planet. I used them for a thru-hike on the AT, all 6 months of it even in the summertime, and they still look like I just bought them last week. Super durable and easy to take on and off. They protect from ticks and poison ivy and mud on unmaintained or wet trails and keep your lower legs and feet dry(If your boots are waterproof)in deep, wet snow and rain. They are very well made and the strap under foot is replaceable if and when it ever should wear out. I have no need to replace it yet.

      Q:

Are these the best gaiters for mountaineering? I am planning a Kilimanjaro trip and need to invest in a good pair of gaiters.
Asked on 8/15/2011 by Pilot Spivey from Kingsville, MD

        A:

These are highly durable gaiters and have been highly rated and one of our top sellers for mountaineers. For even sturdier protection against the elements, I would also recommend our Expedition Crocodiles. They are also designed to fit larger plastic or leather mountaineering boots.

      Q:

According to the sizing chart, I would wear a medium gaiter but I have large calves. Should I go up to a large? My regular shoe/boot size is 8.5-9.
Asked on 8/3/2011 by Travis from Tellico Plains, TN

      1 answer

      • Outdoor Research Employees

        A:

As a size 9, the size of your calf can be the deciding factor for the gaiter. Below are the dimensions of the top edge length and the bottom edge of the leg panel, or the seam point in the middle of the gaiter, for the M and L.

        Medium W's Croc gaiter: Top Edge - 19 38/", Bottom of leg panel - 12 3/4"
        Large W's Croc gaiter: Top Edge - 20 3/8", Bottom of leg panel - 13 1/2"

I hope this information helps you decided on the best fit for you. If you still have questions, please let us know.

      Q:

I was wondering if the Men's small crocs where equivalent to a certain size in women's, or if the women's have a unique fit?
Asked on 5/5/2011 by Em from Ithaca, NY

      1 answer

      • Outdoor Research Employees

        A:

The size of Croc to get depends on your shoe size. So if you are a woman that wears a size 8, in mens sizes you would be about a 7. Therefore, when looking at the mens crocs, a size Medium would be a good fit. The mens and womens gaitors have just a slightly different fit. The medium in womens compared to the mens will be slightly shorter height with smaller openings at the top and bottom. They are very similar and men or women can wear the men's crocs depending on how you like your gaitors to fit. Thanks for your question!

      Q:

What are the differences (if any) in length between M and W sizes? I am a bit on the tall side and want a gaiter that actually reaches the top of my calf, rather than strangling it half way up. Are the M longer and would a W large be equivalent to M medium?

      Thanks
Asked on 5/1/2011 by Fizz from Aus

      1 answer

      • Outdoor Research Employees

        A:

Use the sizing chart to determine the best size gaitor for your shoe size. If you are a woman looking at the men's gaitors, consider what mens size shoe you would wear, then look at the chart to see what size croc that shoe size falls under. The Men's crocs will be slightly taller with slightly bigger openings, so if you are looking for a taller gaitor, then the men's could be a good option.

        A:

Thank you for the question. The Men's and Women's Crocodile Gaiters have the same features and benefits; 3-layer, 70 Denier Gore-Tex and 1000 Denier Cordura offering durable protection. If you measure a size 11 in Men's a size large will give you the best fit on most styles of footwear. A size 11 in Women's would also be a large. Please let us know if you have any further questions.
