    Q:

I'm looking at the BugOuts and the Lows--what I'm mainly interested in is the sizing issue. I wear size 14 low trail running type shoes (Merrell Ventilator). Is there a difference between the XL of the BugOuts and the XL of the Lows?

      A:

Since the BugOut Gaiters come in 4 different sizes, from S-XL, the XL is slightly larger than you will find in the Rocky Mt. Low Gaiter. The bottom edge of the gaiter, when stretched on the BugOut, measures 27.5" while the Rocky Mt. Low measures at 26".

    Q:

I have been using your low gaiters for years for Sierra hiking. My previous three pairs all had eyelets for the under-boot cord. I use a stainless wire threaded inside a tubular nylon shoelace, which lasts about four hiking days on Yosemite talus and off-trail granite. This new model looks like it will last about a week, after which your rubber strap is done, and it can't be replaced with a shoelace. Is that right?

      A:

Dave, you are correct. These gaiters have had the durable under-boot strap sewn directly on the sides since 2009. The high quality of the strap itself as well as the strength of how it has been attached were chosen and designed for long time use on the trail.

    Q:

I wear a size 8-1/2 shoe. What size gaiter should I order?
Asked on 2/24/2011 by Ted the Trail Walker from West Palm Beach, Florida

      A:

It depends on the shoes you are wearing. If they are big and bulky go with the L/XL if they are more low profile like a running shoe, go with the S/M

    Q:

I GO HIKING IN THE SMOKY MOUNTAINS AND OCCASSIONALLY WILL RUN INTO SNOW. WOULD THESE WORK TO KEEP MY PANTS DRY AND KEEP THE SNOW OUT OF MY HIKING BOOTS?

      A:

Thanks for your email. The Rocky Mountain Low gaiters are not designed for keeping snow out of your boots. You will be better off with a full height gaiter like the Rocky Mtn High gaiters or Crocodile gaiters.

    Q:

I'm looking for a pair of shorter length gaiter that are still large enough in diameter to accommodate a pair of BC XC boots. I always see these pictured on a pair of "tennis shoes" so that's where my concern lays.

These will probably fit the bill. Keep in mind how thick your boots are when selecting a size.

    Hi,

Can I use them in the typical scotish Rainy weather, and stay drie? ( I mean quite some heavy rain)

      A:

Thanks for the question, the Rocky Mountain Low gaiters can work in light rain situations. A better option if you want a low type gaiter would be our Salamander gaiters, these are designed for rainy conditions.
