The misty pre-dawn sky hints at the coming bluebird day as packs are shouldered, headlamps are switched on, and quick steps put more distance between you and the trailhead. For burly spring climbs, there is no better outer layer than the Paladin™. Ultralight fabric is durably constructed for the most rugged conditions, and the no-frills design offers high performance without weighty excess. Features include a helmet compatible hood, harness- and pack-compatible pockets, easily adjustable ventilation, and construction that keeps the jacket in place when constantly reaching above your head for the next hold.

I use this jacket as my go-to shell all year round. I have a Medium, but usually wear a Small. The Medium is a bit roomy during the summer with only light clothes underneath (which I don't mind), but it is perfect when I'm skiing in New England in the winter and need to put the Aria down jacket underneath.

    Not as Pictured

    By Deb

    from Dulles, Virginia

After hearing great reviews of the jacket and liking the color shown (Peacock), which is pleasantly different than the normal pale blue rain jackets normally on the market, I was not so pleased to receive a jacket that was different than what was advertised. Instead, I received a jacket with light blue zippers and not the black as shown--which in my opinion looks far more sharper than the sea blue color chosen to accent the jacket. The chin guard is poorly designed, there is nothing soft or comfortable about it. The design and cut is flattering, but please reconsider going back to the black accent color (the blue cheapens the look), and do fix the chin guard to be a bit thicker and wider. For the price of[$], I frankly expected more. I have not tested the functionality, as I will be returning the jacket.

    • Q:

What is the sleeve length on this jacket for a Medium? How does it compare with the Mentor jacket?

        A:

Below are the actual measurements for sleeve length on both jackets. The mentor has a slightly longer length for the same overall sized jacket.

Paladin sleeve length - 35.5" Mentor sleeve length - 36"

    • Q:

What is the length of this jacket (mainly from the underarms to the bottom)? How does it compare to the lenght of the Aspire? I have a longer torso and the Paladin looks shorter from the web pics. Thank you!!

        A:

The length of the Aspire will be longer than the Paladin. The length of the sides on the Aspire in small are 20.5in, which is about an inch longer than the paladin.

    • Q:

what product do you recommend for rain gear (jacket and pants) for rigorous backpacking trips in colorado?

        A:

The Paladin Jacket would be a good rain jacket for rugged, alpine conditions. It is constructed witrh durable 3-layer Pertex Shield fabric, is fully seam taped and has water resistant zippers. The Foray would also be a great option with a little more venting witht the hem-to-bicep TorsoFlo zippers, and is constructed with durable GORE-TEX Paclite fabric.
