Nice hat!

By Turtle2

from Kentucky

Pros

  • Packs tiny
  • very warm

Cons

  • Edge Rubs Forehead

Best Uses

  • Camp Wear

I was tickled to find this hat in a size that fits! I have a small head and most hats don't work. Super warm, this is great for sitting around the fire in camp after hiking all day. The only downside is the elastic band at the hem seemed to rub my forehead raw after 2 nights. Otherwise it is great! I just wear an earband underneath to combat the rubbing.

Exactly what I was looking for.

Pros

  • Lightweight
  • Super Packable
  • Warm

Cons

  • Runs Small

Best Uses

  • Any cold weather activity

I LOVE this beanie. I really don't like wearing puffy jackets with hoods. Inevitably the hood flops around and ends up sticking out of my shell and gets covered with snow or rain. Then when I'm cold and counting on my puffy's hood to keep my head warm I am let down. Because of this I only wear hoodless puffy's. At the same time I want to keep my head warm. This beanie is super lightweight and mimics the functionality of a down hood while staying dry in my pocket until the time is right. I don't go into the woods without it.

  • Q:

Because this is a down filled hat is the nylon exterior waterproof? Typically, when down becomes wet it is hard to dry.

      A:

The exterior is not waterproof, it is an ultralight 20D ripstop polyester. This hat is great for cold climates. With a waterproof exterior, it would not breath as well and might be too warm. If it is worn in a wet environment, it would be necessary to wear a hood.

  • Q:

I have read several reviews for this product and have read some about people being disappointed with the sizing. I normally wear a 7 3/8 hat but wanted to purchase this hat for wear over your sonic balaclava. I was hoping I could get some input from you if that would be doable with the sizes and elastic band built into the hat. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I bought the Large and any thin layer underneath seems to compress the down and lessen the warmth, so go big if you have any doubts. I find the large too small as it is and it doesn't keep my head nearly as warm as my light fleece hat does. I wouldn't even call this a winter hat. I'd take it back to the store but I cut all the labels off.

      A:

Go with the L/XL, it should fit pretty well over the Sonic Balaclava. The L/XL size should fit up to 7 5/8".
