I recently used this jacket while guiding a 16 day December backpacking trip here in Montana. I found it to be incredibly lightweight, waterproof and breathable. I am 5'9", 165 pounds and am a 38 jacket size. I have a medium. It fits well and when they say it is fitted they are not kidding. It doesn't leave room for many layers under it. I am disappointed that there was no draw string on the hood. Because of its fit, I'm not convinced it is a great piece for colder weather alpine pursuits but will love it for other things. The pockets are rather low and inhibit their use while wearing a pack. The fit and flexibility does allow me to not have to remove it while putting a heavier layer like the Chaos Jacket over it.

I have a "Go-To" collection of clothes - pieces that I prefer to wear and it requires extreme circumstances to pull out something else instead. This jacket has become my "Go-To" Lightweight "soft-shell". Even though its not, technically, a soft shell. But it has ventilation and stretch that I never thought was possible with a Gore-Tex fabric, and it has replaced the actual soft shell I was wearing for late spring, summer, and early fall outings. I was lucky to get a prototype for the summer, and the finished production version this fall, and I've worn it on week-long ski tours and fast-and-light summer alpine climbs in the Cascades. It stays in my pack for the next trip, and I'm looking forward to skiing in it this winter.

I used this jacket on a recent ice climbing expedition to Juneau, AK. I stayed dry and it moved with me. It keeps the wind and the water out while not feeling stiff like most gore-tex jackets. I think this jacket would work well for all-seasons and for both rock and ice climbing. Burly enough for ice, and lightweight enough to take on a summer rock climb that threatened to storm.

I have lived in this coat for 1.5 years now, having had a prototype to test for a winter, and now the production coat. All I can say is if you need waterproof/breathable performance like I do (ski touring in the super stormy Selkirks of British Columbia!) then you need this piece. Quiet and supple, stretchy and pretty durable considering how light this piece is. You won't be disappointed if you want and active performance waterproof piece of clothing!

I just used the Axiom Jacket for 4 weeks in Alaska--One week on Turnigan Arm backcountry skiing and Three weeks in the Ruth Gorge where we established two new mixed routes on Mount Bradley. I wore the Axiom the entire time I was moving. It performed exceptionally well across the board. When I was stopped, I pulled on my Chaos puffy and recharged for the next push. I was impressed at the end of the trip how well the Axiom took the abuse. This layer is all about keeping it simple and maintains broad functionality.

I have been using this jacket in the alpine for the past few months and have been really impressed. While being a fully weatherproof and breathable shell it is still light and the new GoreTex fabric is really suple and comfortable. The torso is cut for an athletic build, the hood is big to accommodate a hood and the cuffs are also nice and big to accommodate going over gloves.

It's all that I need and nothing that I don't, psyched about it.

This new gore-tex is awesome! So soft and quiet you almost forget your wearing a waterproof jacket. Very light for such a tough jacket and it really breaths. Nice to see a simple design, just what you need. I'm 5'8" and the medium fits good for winter layering, yet still works for the rainy season.

Excellent question. The Axiom Jacket has a trim athletic cut and will be significantly trimmer then the Foray Jacket. For comparison, I'm 5'11'' 165lbs and a Med fits me very snug without a ton of room for layering (perfect in my book). Hope that helps.

The Axiom is a 'trim fit' jacket - a little bit more 'form fitting' than our 'standard' models.

The specs for the Axiom in medium are as follows:

                        Chest - 44 3/4"
                        Sleeve Length - 36 1/2"

I'm 6'4", 190#s. Your sizing chart doesn't include sleeve length. I wear a 36/37 sleeve. I have to assume that "inseam" in your sizing charts is equivalent to sleeve length?

Is this true? I hope not...cause "tall" sizes will not fit into this jacket.

Sorry for the confusion. The Axiom has a slightly longer sleeve-length the most of our jackets and is a "trim" fit around the body. The sleeve-length for the M is 36 1/2" and for the L is 37 1/2".
