    Comments about W's Enigma Jacket!":

When the skies are threatening, I wear this constantly. The vents allow for quick temperature adjustments on the trail. No stopping needed to take layers on and off. Simply open the vent on both sides. It is amazing how waterproof this is despite the very light weight. There is no hesitation about tossing this into your pack just in case wet weather should move in. With a softshell or fleece piece underneath, it works well for colder weather pursuits. It doesn't feel clammy like other waterproof shells I have owned.

    • Q:

Does the Enigma have a powder skirt? If not, is there another OR shell has a powder skirt and would work for spring skiing (i.e. not heavily insulated)?
      Asked on 3/25/2013 by D

        A:

The Enigma does not have a powder skirt. The Vanguard is the closest product to a shell with a powder skirt that we currently make for women, though it does have a brushed tricot knit backing and is not strictly a shell.

    • Q:

Is this jacket a soft "quiet" fabric like the Reflexa? What shell is the most water, wind and abrasion protection in a quiet material?
Asked on 12/2/2012 by Sharon Newbie from Seattle

      1 answer

      • Outdoor Research Employees

        A:

The Enigma has a more robust, durable Gore Tex outer shell than the Reflexa and these jackets are considerably different in design and function. The Enigma is the recommended jacket under the given circumstances.

This jacket can be machined wash and we would recommend using a technical cleanser like Techwash from Nikwax or a similar product.

    • Q:

How does this compare to the Men's Furio Jacket? Is it the same material? Have a male friend with that and love the weight and feel of the material. Thanks!

Asked on 10/6/2012 by Inquiring Hiker from Telluride, CO

      1 answer

      • Outdoor Research Employees

        A:

It is very comparable to the Men's Furio Jacket. They are both a combination of Gore-Tex Paclite in the body and Gore-Tex Pro Shell on the shoulders and sides. They both have the same weight exterior fabric as well. If you loved his Furio than you will most definitely love the Enigma! Telluride is an awesome place too!! Thanks!

    • Q:

What is the fit of the jacket? Trim, standard or relaxed? What is the length of it?

I am trying to replace a OR Luna jacket, and I have the option between the Enigma or the Aspire. Any insight?
Asked on 10/5/2012 by Nadia from Ontario, Canada

      1 answer

      • Outdoor Research Employees

        A:

The Engima jacket uses our standard fit and has a center back length in a size medium of 26 1/2 inches. The Aspire jacket also uses our standard fit, but with a center back length of 26 3/4 inches. The Enigma jacket is more akin to the Luna jacket as they are both built with a 70D exterior fabric. If you're mostly using the jacket for backpacking or hiking I would go with the lighter weight of the Aspire. If you're going to be mountaineering/mixed climbing and will be putting the jacket through some harsh conditions, you may benefit from the increased durability of the Enigma jacket. Hope that helps!

Hi -- thanks for your question!

The majority of our women's line runs a little bit smaller - you might want to size up a little bit to accommodate for layering. My suggestion is the large.
