Constructed of a lighter fabric than our venerable Mithril™, the Mithrilite™ provides ultimate protection when you're trolling about in cold, wet conditions. It's a sleek, durable, waterproof and breathable soft shell built with all the features needed for intense alpine exploits. Waterproof Ventia™ soft shell fabric and exterior seam tape shed wet snow and prevent soak-through for superior dryness, and a fleece lining retains body heat when you need it most. Functional across a range of weather conditions, the Mithrilite™ lets you forget about your layers and focus entirely on the climb.

Favorite go-to softshell

Cons

    Best Uses

    • Backcountry skiing
    • Hiking

The Outdoor Research Mithrilite has become my new favorite go-to softshell. Its full waterproofness fends off showers or flurries, while its great breathability is enhanced even further with the easy-to-use TorsoFlo waist to pit zips. With that combination, there's no need to go change jackets or layers for the up or down of your chosen sport. It's been a great backcountry ski jacket for me, and it's sure to see lots of use when in the summer alpine season arrives. Its clean cut makes it easy to pull a puffy overtop during lunch breaks. But it's also roomy enough to add a mid-weight layer underneath for really cold days. The huge handwarmer pockets are great, as well as the very adjustable hood that will fit over ski or climbing helmets. The media port on the inside chest pocket keeps my earbud wires neatly tucked away inside the jacket. To sum it up, its features make this softshell extremely functional across a wide range of conditions and seasons. And it fits, feels and looks great, also making it a fine jacket for town/city life.

    New Favorite Softshell

    Pros

    • Stretchy
    • Waterproof

    Cons

    • No stash pockets

I didn't like the Mithril Jacket as it just didn't stretch enough for a softshell for me. I love the Mithril. I even wore it in the shower and I stayed dry. I had a great experieince with it ice climbing in southeast Alaska this year. It breathes well, is easy to move in - great for hard climbing, and keeps you dry. What more could you ask for?
