My new favorite jacket

By JetMT

from Whitefish, MT

Pros

  • Confortable
  • Durable
  • Love the color
  • Perfect Fit
  • Warm

Cons

  • A little Heavy

Best Uses

  • Back Country Skiing
  • Side Country Skiing
  • Skiing

Received my Trillium jacket last night and I LOVE IT! I am an avid skier who skis in bounds, sidecountry and backcountry terrain. I am 5' 8", 140lbs and I ordered a large. It is big on me but that is how I prefer my ski jackets so I can layer up on the cold days and still not feel constricted.
The arm length and torso length are perfect. The color is very attractive. The jacket is extremely comfortable. The fabric is thick and a little heavy but appears to be very durable. The zippers are strong and waterproof. It has nice Velcro on the cuffs and I am able to tighten it down nice and snug around my small wrists and NOT feel like I have a large amount of fabric bunched up.
The hood completely zips off and also fits PERFECTLY with my ski helmet. The jacket looks great with or without the hood. The brim of the hood has a wire of some kind and can be molded to fit your head/helmet.
The inside of the jacket is lined with soft fabric and so are the deep hand pockets. There are two large mesh pockets on the inside to stuff your skins or other gear while venturing into the backcountry. There is a powder skirt on the inside that fits nice and snug for those deep powder days and is completely removable when it is not needed.
The jacket is music compatible and has a headphone hole to the left chest pocket. Inside the left chest pocket is a nicely built slot that fits my ipod perfectly. This allows you to use the pocket for other things at the same time without worrying about your music device falling out.
The pit zips are BIG and go from your collar bone to under your arm (just below your elbow). This will allow some great air flow while skinning in the backcountry.
I have no problem spending the money on a jacket with this high of quality. I know for a fact this jacket will handle the roughest winter days, keep my dry on the wettest days and keep me warm on the windiest days. I will be grabbing this jacket EVERYTIME I got outside this fall, winter, and spring. I couldn't be happier with my purchase.

  • Q:

I am 5' 5", 136 pounds. 36 inch chest, about 28 inch waist, and 38 inch hips. I don't like my jacket too baggy, but want enough room to layer under, and preserve freedom of active movement. What size would you recommend for women's vanguard jacket?
Will not be too big a size M, given relaxed fit? Thanks!

  • Q:

This has a fleece lining. Can you describe the weight and texture of this fleece? I had an Intuition softshell that was plenty warm with a sweater under it and I'm concerned I'll be too warm in this one. How does it compair to the Intuitiion jacket? Thanks
Asked on 8/30/2012 by Linda from Clarks Green, PA

    • Outdoor Research Employees

      A:

The fleece lining is very similar to the Mithril fleece lining, though may breathe a little bit better because of the breath-ability of the GORE soft shell.

      Thanks for your question!
