Best Uses

  • Winter mountaineering

Great gloves, I bought them to replace an old pair of DB gloves that I use for cold weather mountaineering. I have been wanting a pair of OR gloves to replace my old ones for a while but have been holding out for some specific features. I needed an insulated glove and has a leather palm, the leather palm being the most critical (for durability).

I got a chance to use these gloves this weekend to climb Leuthold Coulior on Mt. Hood, temps were below zero with wind and the route turned fairly technical with ice. I found the glove a bit tight with the liner so I ended up using them by themselves (they are very warm without the liner). I like the liner staying on my hand when I remove the glove so I used a standard PL100 liner glove instead of the included liner. The new cinch release is much easier to use than old two sided pull found on other OR gloves.

Overall I like the glove, I'd like to see them a little larger to accommodate the liner because they fit tight. I didn't use them with the liner and found the fit perfect and the glove plenty warm.

  • Q:

Some reviews mention these gloves running small. I fit in a size Medium Ambit glove (with and without a thin liner). Would the Medium High Camp be the correct size?

      A:

Yes they do run small, a medium will still probably fit, but it will be snug around the fingers. We are adjusting the fit for this coming season so it is more accurate. Check out the Remote Glove, it does not have a removable liner, but it fits great and is very warm.

  • Q:

can you use these gloves for downhill skiing? also does the top of the glove fit over your ski coat?

      A:

Yes they can be used for down hills skiing. They are a bit bulkier than our sidecountry gloves because they have a removeable liner. They cuff will fit over your ski jacket. I would suggest you check out the Northback or Remote gloves. These are just as warm and have a better feel gripping a pole. Both will fit over your jacket as well.

  • Q:

How is the moveability compared to the Aliti? And what sort of fabric is on the fleece liner? Is it really sticky material or just kinda smooth?
Asked on 12/1/2011 by Anonymous from Colorado

    1 answer

    • Outdoor Research Employees

      A:

The dexterity is fairly similar, the Alti is a bit stiffer since there is more insulation in the liner. The palm material is tacky, but not sticky, it is spaced out well so the grip is just enough.

  • Q:

Is the inner surface of the shell lined with fleece? More practically, are the shells comfortable to wear without the liners? I understand the fleece liner is removable. I have very large, very warm hands and have found this class of gloves (sans liners) to be the only reasonable option to fit me. Thanks!
Asked on 11/5/2011 by Joel the Giant from South Bend, WA

    1 answer

    • A:

The glove comes with thin "liner" gloves, but it also has built in insulation.
The built in insulation is not removable.
