I wear this jacket all the time, I have had over 20 days in it this season, and it has been fantastic. It is incredibly lightweight, it packs down well, it breaths well, it is absolutely waterrpoof, and it dries amazingly fast. I bought this as my ski patrol coat and I have had many long, wet days on the hill. It always keeps me dry underneath, and then the outside of the jacket is back to being completely dry within ten minutes of being back to the patrol room. Can't beat that! I have also done some alpine climbing in it, and backcountry rescue--which is the best test of breathabiliy and venting that I can think of. It preformed very well.

The only issue that I have had with the coat is that I pulled out one of the seams on the cuff strap, but OR helped me out, and it was an easy fix. Also, using it as a patrol/search and rescue jacket, I am doing a lot of activities that can easily damage the coat, so if it is going to fail for anyone, it is going to fail for me.

Things I would change:
The clavicle vents are great when you aren't wearing a pack, which for me is just about never. I like them in theory--being able to access my radio/beacon under my jacket etc.--but I don't like that they are usually hidden under my pack straps making it a little challenging to vent. I think I would prefer traditional pit vents. Also, one of the chest pockets has an internal zipper allowing you to get to your inner layer anyways.

Length: it's not too short, but I wouldn't mind a few more inches (yes, laugh it up). I am 6' and I have a medium. It fits me perfectly in the arms and the torso, and the articulated fit is great--moves well, and it is not too loose or tight. 3 more inches of length would be nice for skiing/riding though.

Overall, fantastic jacket! My favorite that I have ever had for backcountry skiing and riding, and I am definitely glad that I purchased it. Looking forward to many more seasons it in. Buy this jacket! The perfect combination of weight and construction is amazing.

how is the size compared to the mentor jacket? I had to size up on Mentor to allow room for layering while skiing, should I get the same size as the mentor? Male, 5'5" / 150 lbs size M for the Mentor jacket

  The Inertia features a relaxed fit while the Mentor is a Trim Fit. Size Small should be a more appropriate fit.

  The sleeve length measured from the center of the back to center of the cuff in a straight line is 38.5" for an XL and 39.5" for an XXL. The chest measurement 1" below the armhole is 53.5" for an XL and 56.5" for an XXL.

Q:
This jacket is designed for Sidecountry skiers, so is the fit reflective of that? Will a medium in this jacket have a looser fit than the same size in a more alpine climbing oriented shell, or are the fits consistent across the board and I should just size up accordingly?

What about pants; if I want to go head-to-toe Pro shell, i.e mentor pant...alpine oriented...would I need to size up for a standard ski fit?

  You are correct. The jacket has a relaxed fit and will have a substantially looser cut/fit than most alpine climbing shells.
  
  If you want to go full on Pro Shell, I'd suggest taking a look at our Mentor and Maximus jackets. Both of this jackets fit true to size so you shouldn't have to size up for a standard ski fit unless you plan on layering a ton underneath.

  Hmmm....The picture on our website doesn't do it justice. The Hot Sauce is quite a bit brighter than our website shows. Check out Amazon's picture. It is a little truer to color.

Is the Inertia longer/ taller than the Maximus? I`d like the Maximus for climbing, but the Inertia for skiing if the fit is, say, 3 or 4 inches further down the front and back.

  The Inertia is a bit shorter than the Maximus. The Maximus in a size large has a center back length of 33 inches, while the Inertia in size large has a center back length of 31 3/4 inches. The inertia does have a powder skirt to help keep all that powder out! Thanks!
