Fit is odd for me

By John

from Taiwan

Verified Reviewer

Pros

  • Warm
  • Waterproof

Cons

  • Not Really Fit

Best Uses

  • Bicycling
  • Riding a motorcycle

Just got my pair. Although the recommended temperature range is between -9~4 Celsius, the gloves work fine without getting too warm as the temperature dropped from 25 to 15 Celsius with continuous rain.
However the fit may be odd for Asians like me. The size guide says that I should use M, but only my forefingers and middle fingers feel fit. The thumb parts are a little bit long but acceptable, while the ring finger and pinkie parts are longer than my fingers around 1 centimeter. I can bear with that, but that always feels odd. I hope that I am the only one with this issue.
One more things was surprised is the sticky part can work with touch screen

    Comments about StormCell Gloves:

I took these gloves with me to a deployment to Afghanistan. During the course of the winter and early spring I wore these gloves almost every day while patrolling in Frozen rocky mountainous terrain and while working with various equipment. I used them in everything from sleeting rain to packed snow fall. I had no problems and they always kept my hands warm and dry. The only Issue I had was that the pads on the fingers and palm were not as sticky as when the gloves first arrived. However I think that is to be expected due to heavy use. That being said I still didn't have too many problems with slipping. I will buy another pair, however after 5 months of heavy use they are still going strong and I don't see a need to replace them at this time.

    An outstanding pair of gloves!

    Pros

    • Easy to put on
    • Great wind protection

      Comments about StormCell Gloves:

I bought these gloves for use at work (US Coast Guard) in Kodiak, AK. I am an aviator, so I use them for day to day activities, commuting on cold windy days, and on the flight line prior to and after flights. Excellent for cold days on the flight line. Thick enough to provide wind and cold protection, yet thin enough so that I don't sacrifice the dexterity you lose with heavy gloves. With long exposure in sub freezing and windy days my hands do get cold, but I truly don't believe you can ask for much more from this pair of gloves. They also have handy loops at the base for pulling them on. Those engineers thought of everything.

      • Q:

after the complete misery of searching for waterproof + warm cycling gloves for 30-45F, I've decided to turn my head to winter sport product.

That said, would stormcell be warm enough?

          A:

The Stormcell Gloves would work for the upper parts of that temperature range. For temps at freezing or below I would suggest something like the Arete Gloves.

Looking to use for cold weather photography in Churchill. Would these have enough dexterity to operate the camera while still being warm?

          A:

The Stormcell gloves will provide a great deal of dexterity for your needs and , bonus, is completely waterproof! The Stormcell does not, however, contain synthetic or down insulation, if this is a concern for you. If you are looking for a glove with more insulation yet still has dexterity, I would also recommend taking a look at the Warrant Gloves, or warmer still, the Alpine Alibi II. Both the Warrant and Alpine Alibi II have insulation on the back of the hand allowing your hands to stay warm while keeping the dexterity in the palm.

          Thanks for your question!

      • StormCell Gloves

        Q:

Do these have any insulation? If not, can a liner be used to increase warmth? I'm looking for a warm glove that is not bulky and provides dexterity in cold, wet weather.

          A:

They do not have any insulation. A liner can be used to increase warmth. However I would probably only use a light weight liner so that the glove is not too crammed.
