Men's Incandescent Hoody™

Artikelnr. 57505OR

Typical OR Quality for the backcountry (Review by Rosemary)

I ordered the Incandescent Hoody because I wanted a lightweight 800 fill down jacket for my work. As a wildlife field biologist and tracker, I spend over 300 days in the field every year in the Rockies and the desert through all weather situations.
This hoody is a perfect layer under my expedition fit shell and can easily be layered with a warm fleece.
I have taken this on a backpacking trip on the Continental Divide in colder weather this fall and it kept me warm and toasty in cold conditions in the low twenties with precipitation.
I found it runs true to size for me and the fit was perfect.
I highly recommend this item and look forward to putting it through its paces this coming winter.

This is your safety net! (Review by Nick)

When looking for something to take on an early spring hike on the Appalachian Trail, I knew I needed a piece both lightweight and warmth packaged into a durable shell. The forecast looked like we could be expecting anything from 30’s during the day, down to the lower teens once the sun sets. This things packs down small with the 800 fill, and very lightweight for the warmth it offers. When I received the jacket I was initially impressed with the Pertex fabric. Its very lightweight, yet after brushing it against tree limbs and brush, I was surprised that I walked away without a snag. It seems very durable, yet doesnt sacrifice that with weight.

The baffles are unique here, and they don’t follow the traditional horizontal puffies that are out there, which I like. I also like the orange supernova because its different as well. The fabric is unique in the sense that its thin enough that you can see into the baffle and view all of the feathers. I can see why some might balk at this, but not only does it offer functionality, it also becomes a talking piece as well.

Naturally, with many other items from OR, you can expect the napoleon pocket, stuff sack pocket, and a bottom-up zipper. I find this to be a much needed feature on many jackets to dump extra heat. Another great feature that I enjoy is the hood. Many of the hoods have pull strings, yet this one...possibly to save weight uses an elastic seam on on the hood to offer a snug fit each and every time.

If you are looking for something one step above the Transcendent Sweater in terms of warmth, yet continue to offer you the durability and packability you have come to expect from OR...this is your jacket!

Awesome puffy warmth (Review by climbskihike)

This is an amazing down jacket for a slim build climber/skier type.
The fit is perfect for me (medium, 6' 160) and it is light, very warm, very packable, and looks great. I've had a few down jackets and this is by far the best. For typical conditions in the lower 48 this seems plenty warm to me.

Good warm and fitted. (Review by BeardedCanadian)

I am a professional outdoor educator and my gear gets lots of use, but not necessarily abuse. I take great care of my gear almost to a fault. I purchased this jacket before leading a course in the Gila Mountains in New Mexico last fall. The temperatures only got down to the mid teens Fahrenheit (-5 to -10 Celsius) at night and I didn't take any other layers other than my hiking shirt and baselayer.

With the Incandescent Hoody I was never cold. This jacket kept me warm and cozy. I was a little worried about the thin material, especially in the prickly Southwest, but I never had an issue with the jacket, but like I mentioned I am very careful with my gear. Well that isn't completely true. I did tear the fabric on the outside of the hood when I was packing it to fly down south. It got caught on the zipper when I tried to stuff it in the pocket stuff sack. After that I didn't use the pocket as a stuff sack. I normally just stuff it inside my pack loosely and that seems to work well.

I also used it in Sub Zero Fahrenheit temperatures in Northern Canada this winter along with a shell and a fleece. It kept me moderately warm, but if I stopped moving for too long I would get a chill. That being said, I wouldn't say it was intended as an Arctic jacket, but it works in a pinch.

The only negatives about this jacket, and I am being picky is I got the orange color and you can see the down through the shell fabric. I don't really care, but some people might. Also the Pertex is delicate if you are not careful with it, so if you are hard on your gear you may want to find something a bit more durable.

I am 5'10", 190lbs and 44" chest and the medium fits me like a glove with my baselayer and outer shirt on. I can also get a lightweight fleece under it. It is fitted unlike other down Jackets, which is the way it should be. I have a Medium Foray Shell and it doesn't fit over the jacket without compressing the down and me feeling very constricted. I also have the Axiom Jacket that is a large and it fits pretty well over the jacket, with the exception of the forearms which are a bit tight.

Great Jacket. I didn't put a "Positives" section because there are too many. I only wish they had pants to match.

Excellent Jacket - stylish and comfortable (Review by Mo Khan)

The Incandescent Hoody is the best down jacket i have ever owned. The light weight of the jacket almost makes you feel like you have nothing on yet it manages to keep you warm and comfy. Its almost like the jacket adjusts to the temperature you're in. I bought the Supernova/Diablo color and have gotten so many compliments on the styling of the jacket and the exquisite color. Can't wait to order the jacket in Abyss and get an awesome shell for it also.
