Great Fit, Lots of Feathers

By Unhappy Camper

from Grand Rapids, MI

Pros

  • Great Fit
  • Light weight yet warm

Cons

  • feathers shed

Best Uses

This coat fit really well however my coat shed a ton of feathers. Not just a feather here and there (like a typical down coat) but my entire back/arms would be full of them. I called to ask if I could exchange, however, the customer service rep stated that they knew this was an issue due to the fabric used on the coat. Unfortunately, I had to return the coat.

The Aria Storm Parka was such a pleasant surprise! I was thrilled with my purchase as soon as I tried it on. It's the perfect coat for those cooler fall days, and I know it will be great this winter. It's not bulky but definitely warm, and so lightweight.

I'm looking for a stylish, but very warm winter coat that I can wear to work and school on a daily basis. Can I expect this coat to stand up to Alberta's dry -30 & -40 C days?

    • Q:

I will be in Paris after Thanksgiving & the weather is upper 40's/50 at day with lows 38/44. Also, there's a 20-50% chance of rain over our stay. I chill easily and am looking for the 'perfect coat' to allow for strolls on the streets, protect me from elements but also not weigh me down when ducking into a museum for a few hours. I plan to layer with a undershirt & light sweater.

This coat *seems* to fit the bill, especially since I was looking for this exact length.

Is tihs coat a good recommendation or is there another in your line you would recommend instead?

Also, what is the "stuff" pocket on the right side? Is this a packable coat with built-in storage ... or is it simple a "stuff" pocket to put -stuff- inside?

      Thank you!!!

        Hi,
I live in NYC area and adore this coat - I bought this coat to go for walks, shop and museum strolls but I am starting to wear it for dressier occasions with a scarf (not formal affairs but nights out with friends). Its extremely comfortable due to the lightweight and I receive constant compliments. I am a petite person - 5'3" ,115# and own the xs in the grey color. I understand this review is not timely for the Thanksgiving Paris, but hope it helps other buyers.

The Aria Storm Parka should perform just fine. The right handwarmer pocket doubles as a stuff sack.

        A:

The Aria Storm Parka is made with 2 layer Pertex Shield and has a DWR treatment but is not seemed taped. It is designed to handle moisture but is not waterproof.

      How long is this coat?

        A:

The center back lengths of the W's Aria Storm Parka are as follows:

        XS - 32 3/4"
        S - 33 3/4"
        M - 34 3/4"
        L - 35 3/4"
        XL - 36 3/4"

These measurements should be taken from the center back neck seam. The parka typically falls at mid-thigh.

    • Q:

Would this parka be a good option for windy days? I live on the Front Range of Colorado and am looking for something that will keep the wind out while walking in town. If not, is there another insulated jacket that would be more suitable?
Asked on 10/11/2012 by Britt from Fort Collins, CO

      1 answer

      • Outdoor Research Employees

        A:

The jacket should cut most of the wind but isn't completely windproof since it isn't baffled i.e. the stitching goes all the way through. If you are looking for something completely windproof I'd suggest taking a look at our Chaos Jacket or Havoc Jacket. Both have Windstopper so they are completely windproof.
