The Cirque™ is a durable, technical soft shell built for high-energy climbing and skiing in alpine environments. The highly-breathable, wind-and weather-resistant double-weave, stretch woven fabric excels in high-mountain conditions, making it a great do-it-all soft shell for hiking, climbing or ski touring. The zippered handwarmer pockets -- designed to sit above a harness or hipbelt -- make sure energy bars and maps remain accessible, and the trim fit allows for dynamic movement without excess fabric snagging on rock or ice on your way to the summit.

Sizing and Insulation

By Skilake

from Salt Lake City, Utah

Pros

  • Durable
  • Light
  • Weatherproof

Cons

  • No insulation
  • Sizing Small For Layering

Best Uses

  • Spring Touringskiing

I use this product for ski touring, mtn. biking. I bought this jacket thinking it was similar to the Camber jacket that I had been using and enjoying....but had really overused, and needed a replacement. However, I found the sizing to be different significantly. I am 6'-1", 165, and fit.....usually plenty safe bet for a medium......however, a medium is NOT the right call for this unless you are purely spring weathering it. The medium is too tight, and won't let you layer well for Winter. Other reviewers seem to have different opinion on sizing. There is no insulation for this jacket at all....purely a weatherproofing layer. It is light and very durable and typical good OR product....but order up a size and know you're gonna have to layer underneath.

Going for a hike, after a run, around the campfire--this is the go anywhere do anything soft-shell. It looks good and performs great. I'm 5'7" and 175lbs. the Lg. fits great. The exterior is tough enough to handle wear & tear and the inside is fleece-like--warm and soft. This is my go-to jacket for any use.

    Pros

    • Extra Features
    • Keeps out the cold
    • lots of useful pockets
    • Roomy sleeves
    • Soft Interior
    • tough exterior

    Cons

      Best Uses

      • Cool morning runs
      • Mornings by the campfire

The Cirque jacket is versatile. It works for me on cool morning trips to yoga or on snow shoe trips. It's good to have technical jacket that has a tough finish, doesn't need to be babied and is pretty waterproof. At the same time there's a soft interior fleece that feels great next to the skin or fits easily over a base layer. There's plenty of roomy pockets including an interior zippered pocket with a media cord port. The sleeves are a looser fit which means you can put it over a layer without having your sleeves pulled up to your elbows.

      • Q:

I seem to be in between sizes in OR jackets. The Transfer Med is too small and the Large is a bit too roomy (in the shoulders/pits mostly). Is the Cirque cut trim enough to give the Large a try?
Asked on 11/26/2012 by Matt from Boone, NC

        1 answer

        • Outdoor Research Employees

          A:

The Transfer line features a standard fit while the Cirque Jacket is a Trim Fit which should size better for you in a Large.

      • Q:

I have used the OR Credo jacket for years now and I love it for backcountry due to breathability, fit (I am 6'1" and wore size Med), and insane durability. I particularly liked the longer torso length on that jacket too.
But It was stolen recently! Bummer!
Is this Cirque Jkt your closest replacement of that Credo jacket? Or is it the Transfer Jkt? Similar materials? What might be different?

          A:

The Cirque Jacket will be the most comparable of the two in regards to fit, warmth and design. The Transfer features a more standard fit and would be warmer than the Cirque.

      • Q:

Good morning, I am really interested in purchasing the Cirque jacket but wanted a second opinion on sizing. I am 5'9" and weigh approx 145lbs. Woould I be better off with a medium or large?

        Thank you
Asked on 8/6/2012 by Derick from Aviano U.S. Air Base, Italy

        1 answer

        • Outdoor Research Employees

          A:

The Cirque Jacket is a "trim" fit, thus, it runs a little bit trimmer than our standard mediums, that being said, it sounds like it may be a good fit for you.

Here are a few specs on the medium that might help:

          Chest - 41"
          Sleeve length - 35"
          Back Length - 27 3/4"

          Large:

          Chest - 44"
          Sleeve Length - 36"
          Back length - 28 3/4"

          Thanks for your question!

I'm a size medium in most TNF jackets 5'8" 165 lbs would I go medium or large?

          A:

I wear a MD in most Outdoor Research Jackets and am 5"10" 170 lbs, so I'm fairly certain MD will be the way to go. Key dimensions for SM, MD, & LG are below to assist with your decision: SM - chest 38", center back 26 1/2", sleeve 34" / MD - chest 41", center back 27 1/2", sleeve 35" / LG - chest 44", center back 28 1/2", sleeve 36"

      • Q:

I have the OR Logic Vest and love it. Now I want the Logic Jacket but you no longer make it. Is the Cirque Jacket the replacement for the Logic Jacket? The Cirque seems to be made from a lighter/thinner material than the Logic, but the Cirque seems to be the closest thing I can find to the Logic.... Am I missing something?

        Thanks!
Asked on 5/6/2012 by Marty from Christchurch, New Zealand

        1 answer

          A:

The Logic has been discontinued and the Cirque is the most comparable model in the current line.

      • Q:

How does the Cirque compare to the Aspect? What is the best use for one vs. the other? I am looking at a second layer for mountaineering, backcountry, etc.
        Thank you
Asked on 2/4/2012 by alex from San Francisco, CA

        • Outdoor Research Employees

          A:

The Cirque has a very breathable double weave material, is very lightly insulated, and is designed for high energy activities. The Aspect has a much more water resistant material, with a thick fleece liner, designed for warmth and while back country skiing.

          A:

I would suggest you look at a Large. It is a slightly trimmer jacket and being 6' 1" you will want the length, the body should be some what slim do to the fit.

      • Q:

Features say it has fleece insulation. What does that mean? Is it just lined with fleece on the inside of the jacket? I'm looking for something in between my down coast and my shell. Live in Colorado. Need a jacket for 25-40 degree sunny but windy days.

This has a very light fleece lining. For a warmer jacket, look at the Aspect and Motto softshells.
