This pant is for those that love the deep snow. No normal pant is going to keep the snow out when its deep and you are dropping the knee, or alpine turning. When it is not deep you can remove the bib and have standard pants, briliant. I do like my bibs a bit looser, but a pretty lame complaint. What i dislike more is getting snow all in my pants or having a wet belly and lower back because the normal pants do nothing for those areas. You can tighten the draw strings on the Jacket but the cold smoke will find its way in.

In the sizing chart they give you three different inseam choices. Short, reg. and long! DO you get to choose the length with the Vanguard pant?

Does the fleece-line backing Come out on these? They are perfect exept for that, I will not be able to regulate my temperature well enough. No I dont like the Mentor pants. Please make me a pair with no liner and I'll buy them. Yours truely, the supportive military guy.

  • Q:

I know this bibs primary use is for side country skiing but how well it would it double for mountaineering? I am looking for a pant/bib that will do both. Any thoughts or suggestions?

      A:

      Hey- thanks for your question!

The Vanguard is great for side-country and has a fleece-line backing so it may not be the best for mountaineering if you run a little warm. My suggestion would be using the Mentor pant for both. The Mentor pant has a removable bib, is Gore-tex Proshell, and would allow you to custom your temperature regulation with your own under-layering a little bit better since it is not fleece-lined.

      Hope this helps!

  • Q:

If I am a 33 inch waist with a 31 inch inseam, what size should I get? I will be using these for backcountry skiing and need to have the flexibility to add layers.

It sounds like the medium would be a good fit for you.

Here are the specs for the Vanguard pant:

      Medium - 34 1/2" waist and 34"inseam
      Small - 31 1/2" waist and 33" inseam

      Thanks for your question!

  • Q:

I was going to buy the Vanguard pants, but I can not tell if there is a full length (waist to ankle cuff) leg zipper on the side. Please let me know. And if it does not, it really needs it to allow unrestricted access in case of emergency or the need to access a knee brace for example.
