I've worn this garment for every activity since receiving it four months ago: multipitch alpine and rock climbing, backcountry ski touring, ice climbing, cragging, early morning skinning, alpine ridgelines, runs...you name it. It's the ultimate mid layer garment: I'll wear a long or short sleeve next to skin with this on top, and the weather protection and temperature management are ideal. If the breeze picks up on the ascent, throw the hood over and you're covered until you top out.

I'll still bring a bigger shell/softshell/puffy for the outer-most layer and descent, but as part of a layering system, this garment is a staple in all my activities.

I've owned this hoody for a couple years now, and it has become my go-to jacket. It protects through all weather short of a downpour, and I have been thankful to have the close-fitting hood on many occasions. The fit is excellent, trim but with enough stretch to allow your every move. And the fabric face is tough enough to stand up to all the rock, brush and thorn I've often found myself in. I'm 5'8" and 160lbs, and a medium fits me perfectly. I also like how it stows inside one of the hand pockets, compressing it down to softball size. My only gripe- no interior pockets for stashing a map or gloves.

        90% jacket

I call this a 90% jacket because it will work for 90% of the time. I still use my Helium 2 over the top when it really rains, or my Transcendent vest under it when it is very cold. But still, it works by itself 90% of the time.
It is light and breathable to wear in mild to cool weather, blocks the wind and rain....this thing is just about perfect.

I've been wearing this jacket non stop for the past couple months and hasn't begun to wear. It's a tough thin midlayer and the hood is stretchy enough to fit over a helmet and small enough to fit under a helmet. The Ferrosi's stretch doesn't hinder your movement when you're stretching for that gaston or locking off on a crimp.

I weigh 145 lb, 5'8'', 30'' waist and I got a small. It's a snug fit but you can still layer underneath it and layer on top.

It packs down small into the left side pocket, which is a nice perk.

My only complaint is that it's pockets could be located higher to avoid harnesses and hip belts on packs.

This sof shell is a great for spring skiing which i got it for, but goes on to everyday use. At 13000 feet and a strong wind i felt it was better that wind resistant. As far as water resistance i have not put it up to a big test. For those days ill have the foray on hand great rain coat shell by OR This is a faboulous product, comfortable lightweight and packs right down

get the job done jacket. Great at the summit at 13,000 after a long hot climb. I found it to be more than wind resistant in that situation. It has also been a great layer in the mountains of north carolina. Haven't tested it as much to the rain as the wind, but i think water resistant would be accurate. When it rains it pours in NC and the Foray keeps me dry for those times.

I own at least ten different softshells and this one is probably the single best. The Ferossi is very light weight, stretchy, and water/wind resistant. However, the best feature to me is the slim/athletic cut. I'm 6'1" 180lbs with long arms with a 32" waist and the Ferossi fits my torso without excess material or baggy waist. Also, the arms are cut long so I don't have to worry about this jacket pulling out of my harness as I reach over my head. Durability is decent but be mindful of your ice tool picks or you'll poke holes in your jacket. The upside is that if you get light snags you can fix them with a lighter and a steady hand.

Its worth mentioning that OR says the Ferossi Hoody is not helmet compatible but I found the hoody stretchy and large enough to comfortably pull over my climbing helmet.

My only suggestion for improvement would be to place the hand pockets higher to clear a harness. I don't put anything in my shell pockets so it's rather minor but it'd be nice just the same.

This is my single favorite garment. I have had this for over a year so it's half way through a second ski season and headed into a second climbing season. I wear this over a lightweight top and a sweater for all skinning and boot packs. Throw on a shell for the way down and off you go. Also great for multi pitch climbing or cragging. To me, this is the perfect balance between wind resistance, weight, warmth, breathability and movement. I'm 6'1"w/ long arms and wear a large.

I've been wearing the Ferrosi Hoody almost daily since I got it. The material is light yet durable and is comfortable over a tee shirt or warmer base layer. In addition to the uses above, I've worn it at work when the shop is cold and while photographing the local rodeo. I've used the deep inside pockets for everything from maps to camera accessories to tackle. The hood works well and is neither too big nor too small.
Truly a perfect three season jacket.

I do a lot of guiding and constantly am cooking on the fire, although it is a synthetic technical fabric i would certainly rank this jacket and its material as very rugged and durable. The jacket has become like a second skin for me and i wear it all the time, whether its a light rain or a good wind, but once at camp it stays on until i go to sleep!

The Ferrosi would be a good jacket for sun protection since it is a breathable, lightweight fabric made of nylon/spandex material that should provide ample sun protection.

One option to improve the DWR coating on the Hoody is to put it in the dryer on low. This reactives the DWR. Another option is to use a waterproofing techwash in the washer or a waterproofing spray-on.

Does the Ferrosi Hoody have a more snug fit then the Cirque Jacket?

                            A:

The Ferrosi Hoody has a standard fit, not a trim fit, so depending on the size, does not fit more snugly than the Cirque Jacket. It is a much lighter weight jacket and very comfortable.
