I love this cap, since I received this hat I've been able to count on a reliable product in the field. Oregon weather can change on you in swift kick and this hat is what you need for the trails.

      Comments about Drifter Cap:

I wanted a windproof, waterproof ball cap for hiking. My hat size is L, this cap is only available L/XL and is a bit too big. The adjustment cord on the back snugs it down but you need to "burp" the cap in back otherwise it balloons. For some reason I thought it would have a lining (it doesn't) which I really need to keep my head warm. I solved that by buying some fleece and making a removable liner. Now the cap is perfect, keeps my head warm and dry with a nice bill to keep sun and rain off of my face. I also wear it (without the liner) over my OR Peruvian windstopper hat (keeps my head and ears warm).

          Comments about Drifter Cap:

Got this hat couple years ago, wore it once at a winter hike and my head got soaked wet after 20 minutes.

Yes, it is made out of Goretex and I guess it's inherent limit of the fabric. Goretex wicks moisture out. However that moisture wicking-ability is to a certain extent, I think.

A person's head is like a chimney of the body and it is one of the first body part that gets sweaty when doing rigorous exercise like hiking. This hat did not wick all that sweat out from my head like my old cotton or wool hats did. Or maybe the wetness was more of a mixture of sweat and condensation due to temp. difference, for it was winter time.

The hat would be an ideal use when doing more sedentary exercise in the rain. Not recommended for vigirous exercise but depends on what you do in it, this can be an asset.

Oh, also the size runs a tiny little bit big. My head circumference is 22 3/4 inch (58 cm) and the large size runs a little too big. The small/medium size was too tight that my blood won't flow to my brain.

Is this hat SPF and good for the summer? Also, is it breathable? Bald and need something for my head in the summer. Prefer baseball type hats that have good ventilation.

It sounds like our summer version of this hat is more of what you are looking for. It is called the Swift Cap and comes in a variety of colors.

If you need an opening for a ponytail, the another OR hat, Revel Cap, is an excellent choice.

Hello Mike, thanks for your question. If you go to the page for the Drifter Cap on the Outdoor Research website, there is a sizing tab. Measure the circumference of your head and look at the sizing chart to determine the best size for you.
