    Comments about Frostline Hat!":

This is a great hat. Warm, comfortable, versatile. The only problem is the chin strap. What happened! The Velcro sticks to everything except the other side of the strap. It really needs to be redesigned with a snap, magnet, button...something. Also, as others stated, they do run a little small. According to OR, I should have been a medium. Ended up returning for a Large.

    • Under coat hood

    Comments about Frostline Hat!":

The Frostline hat is the most useful hat I've found for extreme cold environments. It is completely wind-proof, yet breathable and thin enough to be worn under a coat hood if desired. The "stealth" face mask allows me to wear the hat with work/business clothes without looking like a ninja, but quickly provides great facial protection if needed. It could be improved by a snap or something similar to fasten the chin strap, but that's not a show-stopper. I also would like to see an XXL, or general size increase. Either I have a huge noggin, or it runs very slightly small.
In short; this is the best hat I've owned for really cold weather. I am currently wearing it for a winter in Northern Kazakhstan, and it is holding it's own against Siberian weather.
    Well done.

    Comments about Frostline Hat!":

I use this hat when walking across campus between classes as well as for backcountry skiing. I really like the zip-out face mask! The one downer is the weak velcro under the chin strap-it sticks to everything except the strap its meant to. So, I sewed on a snap button of my own (too good to give up), now it's PERFECT.

      Comments about Frostline Hat!":

This hat is the best. I bought 2 and I plan to buy more so I'll never run out. Its like a transformer hat; with full face, ear, head, chin and brow protection from the winter/ windy elements. I like its sleek, versatile, all-in-one design.

        Q:

Do the ear flaps fold up and secure onto the top of the hat like a russian ushanka or bomber hat? If so, does the hat look like an ushanka with the fur runnign all way round or does it stay under and the nylon shows only?
Asked on 1/27/2011 by Bald head from VA

        2 answers

        • A:

no, the ear flaps cannot fold up and secure onto the top of the hat as you see in the picture. I bought this today in Hong Kong.

Yes, the ear flaps will fold up, and once they are you can see the inner lining all the way around the outside.

        Q:

I own the Rando cap and I'm interested knowing whether the Frostline hat has more insulation/greater warmth?
        Asked on 1/23/2011 by ColdPerson

        1 answer

        • Outdoor Research Employees

          A:

The Rando Cap uses a 100 weight fleece lining, where the Frostline Hat uses a Posh Pile fleece lining. I believe that Frostline which is a bit thicker is a tad bit warmer.
