    Comments about M's Rampart Jacket:

I spend tons of hours out in the woods riding my bike or trail building. I wanted a jacket to protect from the wet and cold you feel when you have been out in the forest for 6+ hrs and this jacket is awesome. I stash in my backpack and know that is always there in an emergency.

I sweat a lot when riding or working and honestly have never felt the benefit of any waterproof material that 'breathes'. Give me a jacket with massive vents that i can use to control my body temp any day. This jacket has side vents that open all the way up under your armpits and the front zipper is double sided, so that it can unzip from the bottom...I love that. When riding / running i use the adjustable waist cord to keep the jacket crimped in around my waste for a snugger fit.

The jacket fits awesome, my arms move freely, it doesnt bunch up and it feels light and comfortable on my body. I relish watching the rain pour right off the jacket when it gets nasty.

This is a nice, simple rain jacket for any wet weather you might come across. It held up in upwards of 12 inches of snow and it even kept me nice and warm over just a base layer (while on the move). It packs down small, so you can take it anywhere if you think it'll rain.

Great jacket for the price. I could not find a flaw, and the breathability problem is easily fixed with the pit zips. It has come through for me on many trips and plan on using it a lot more.

        Comments about M's Rampart Jacket:

I bought this jacket as a basic outerwear jacket for layering over a fleece in cold weather. It truly is no-nonsense, a simple but smart design. Don't plan to do much aerobic activity with the jacket in warm weather since it doesn't breath except through zipper venting management. Which leads me to the smart part of the design: I really appreciate the thoughtful placement and design of the zippers. The Torsoflo zippers are terrific! I don't know why everybody doesn't use this design. Also, all the exposed zippers are covered with waterproof flaps, as opposed to those terrible rubberized water resistant zippers that many outdoor garment makers are using. The waterproof flaps keep water out whether the zipper is open or closed and keep cold breezes from penetrating the jacket. Those ridiculous rubberized zippers don't offer any of these benefits. I used the jacket over a fleece yesterday while snowshoeing and could adjust the many venting options to keep me comfortable.

I am a minimalist. It is hard to find a quality light weight water proof shell (especially for the price). Great to pack it and forget it until you need it, or for just walking the dog in the rain.

This is a great budget jacket that does it all. If you are not in the market for a several hundred dollar hard shell and need something to get you from the outdoors to the city and back this is it. If you get hot just open those HUGE side vents to cool off.

        • Q:

How does the sizing of this jacket compare to your other jackets? I am 5'11", and typically wear a large. Not sure if this will be too big. I have one or your moto jackets in a large, and the arms are bit long. Just trying to get an idea of fit.

          • Outdoor Research Employees

            A:

The Rampart is a standard fit. It will have a similar fit to the Motto, which is also a standard fit. The sleeve length on the Rampart, from center back to cuff, is 36.5".

          Q:

I was just wondering what is the best way to wash this jacket. I was thinking of using just cold water, let it soak, then hand wash it in the bathtub or utility sink. Is that the best way? Are there any soaps I should use or shouldn't use? Thanks!

          1 answer

          • Outdoor Research Employees

            A:

This jacket can be washed in your machine on cold and we recommend using a technical wash, such as Nikwax. You should then dry your jacket on low for at least 15 minutes as this will 're-set' the waterproofing.

Does this fabric have any stretch/give to it like the fabric used in the Revel jacket?
Asked on 3/15/2011 by Mike from Irving, TX

          1 answer

          • Outdoor Research Employees

            A:

Thank you for the question. The fabric used in the Rampart styles does not have stretch to it like the Revel collection. The Revel will also offer more breathability when compared to the Rampart. Let us know if you have any other questions.

Yes, the Rampart is meant to be layered and will fit over the top of the Logic.

        • M's Rampart Jacket

          Q:

The jacket is unlined and waterproofed or water resistant with a PU coating. So why is the inside of the jacket a different color? It is grey even for the red jacket. This would imply a lining or inner coating. What is the story?
Asked on 1/29/2011 by Geeslin from iowa

          1 answer

          • Outdoor Research Employees

            A:

The jacket is unlined but it uses more than one layer, which is why you see the gray. The material is a nylon with a waterproof coating, and is fully seam taped.
