- Super trim fit, but good for what it is (Review by Sam)
I really wanted a softshell lined with fleece for winter skiing on days without precipitation in New England and Virginia (yes...Virginia), but the really slim cut means you can't layer much underneath. I'm 6'3" and 175 lbs with a slim build and I felt really restricted with a Better Sweater under this thing, which is my go-to layer on cold/sunny days. I typically wear a medium, and that's the Lodestar size I purchased...definitely snug on a 38" chest and the armpits are really tight, though the arm length is just fine (more than adequate).
I love the materials, particularly the high-loft fleecey lining and the Polartec softshell in the shoulders/sleeves, and would have kept it around if it were just a bit bigger in the midsection. I ended up returning the Lodestar and going with the Havoc, which is less of a shell and more of an insulator, but has a more generous cut for being a medium. I'd say the Lodestar would be fine for 32* bluebird days, but for anything colder that demanded more layering you'd want a size up from normal.
