Great parka!

By inthedesert

Pros

  • Hood
  • Lightweight
  • Pockets
  • Warm

Cons

  • Color choicesize

Best Uses

  • Skiing

I had been looking at this jacket since I saw a good friend wearing one. The quality of work and details surpass any other company making shells out there, especially compared to higher cost jackets. Even though it's called a jacket, this is a nice, mid-weight parka that wouldn't need much underneath on a ski day or ice climbing.

One piece of advice to buyers though is the color choices. The Trillium color seemed more red in the photo, but don't have any doubt--it's a bright pink on the outer (much more the color of the swatch than the photo). Still a nice color.

Also, as someone who hovers between XS and S women's jackets at OR, I was bummed to not have more color choices than black in the XS. Even though there may be less XS buyers out there, it is still a size that sells and I wish at least one of the colorful jackets had been available in XS. I got the small and it fits a bit looser than planned, but that is fine in a ski parka.

OR is the top in jacket quality, I have this and a shell and am so happy with them!

The Go To Jacket!

  • Great fit in shoulders
  • Hood fits with any helmet
  • Pockets and more pockets
  • Warm
  • Windproof

Cons

    Best Uses

    • Fantastic Belay Jacket
    • ice climbing
    • Skiing

I was over-the-top excited when OR made this jacket in the current cut for women. I bought a guy's version 4 years ago in a small. I swam it, but wore it anyway for the excellent features. In a guy's small, it became the one jacket that my partners and I would take on long multi-pitch climbs, or share at belay's cragging.

When I received my girl's jacket, I shared the love and passed my men's small on to a climbing partner. It now shares belays and pitches with a new group of friends who are quickly saying, 'wow! This jacket is awesome. You can climb in it. It's warm! The hood fits the helmet comfortably...'

While it's understated appearance on a hanger speaks softly, this jacket will win you over with function, flattering fit and detail. The pockets are plentiful for harnesses and holding multiple gloves for skiing. When I'm out in it, the guys stop and ask what jacket that is. When the girls are hopping around asking "aren't you cold?" I can say nonchalantly, "Nope."
