RATING AND REVIEWS

Great for cold, windy summits

5

I bought this for climbing Mount Rainier earlier this summer. I'm really glad I did because the summit was indeed freezing and very windy. I was very impressed with how warm the jacket kept me. The hood fit over my climbing helmet well. The jacket also does well at base camp and camping in general, when you're hanging out and the temperature starts to drop. It packs down fairly small into its pocket and is lightweight. And it feels like youre wearing a warm cloud :)

THIS JACKET IS MY FAVORITE

In all honesty I was not super visually impressed with the coat, but after it became part of my closet I LITERALLY USE IT EVERY DAY. I live in a cold place and to grab a warm down jacket on my way out the door is what I do. But the versatility of this jacket is insane: It's super light, so you can pack it down and compress it into your touring pack for the top of the tour on a cold day / throwing it over the shell /or warming up before descending if it's mega windy or you catch a chill because of sweat at the top?.. .. it's also a warm enough jacket to double as emergency jacket for your touring pack too. I put it over a very VERY thin layer (okay, it was a costume but nevertheless) the other day and skied in it on a 8 degree storm day and was perfectly comfortable up top. It's SO WARM!! It's also ridiculously comfortable. Ladies: it's like wearing a sleeping bag. Fabric is soft, interior is soft: it's THE BEST. Functional zippers and two huge mesh inner pockets that are potentially one of my favorite features. Anyway- It's my favorite down jacket of all time (okay, maybe not the sexiest, but definitely the most comfortable, functional, and warm) I'd recommend this jacket to anyone.

This is the warmest coat!

It is long enough to cover your bum which adds even more warmth. The hood is big enough to fit a helmet, but can be adjusted to wear without one. The big pockets on the inside are nice to store gloves, hat, etc. The sleeves are plenty long. It fits a little baggy but I like that so I can layer up if needed. So far, it's been warm enough, I haven't needed to layer up. Excellent coat! Makes me feel impervious to the cold!

Perfect for the cold

I bought this jacket for my nepal trip (in january). This jacket has been great. Easy to layer with, fits a climbing helmet, packs down very small.

Warm, lightweight, cover the derriere, very happy with it.

I used the jacket for the transition period while ski touring, as a warm layer while the hut is getting warmed up, as a pillow or in my sleeping bag in the backcountry in freezing condition.

I use this jacket for winter adventures in Northern Canada and it always keeps me warm! It's perfect for longer adventures since it packs down so small.

Very warm which is what I was looking for. It looked more fitted in the online pic than it actually is. Not a big deal but worth mentioning

Made for real winter weather

Bought this intending to use as my everyday winter jacket here in NW Montana. Its the real deal. To puffy and warm for everyday. Better for hut ski trips, ice climbing, etc. I sent it back and got a Transcendent Hoodie instead. In short, If you are standing around in the cold arctic air, this is your jacket. If your hiking to the bar after a day of skiing, its overkill.

I fear the cold and it kept me toasty -runs a bit big

Great coat! Totally covers your butt. Yay! Brought it for late fall (Oct -Nov) canyon backpacking and it kept me nice and warm. It runs a bit large even with layering underneath. I would have probably sent it back for a medium, but didn't have time. (For reference - I have bought a Large and I had bought a large OR deviator hoody earlier this season. While I realize these are supposed to be different fits (standard and trim respectively) - even my co-workers giggled at how big my puffy coat was on me. The deviator is just the right size and snug as I would expect a trim fit and the alpine coat I swim in a bit even with layers underneath. I am about 5'2" 145 and a 44 c/d. Also, the coat seems fairly water resistant as I was doing some trip clean up in the cold and got the sleeves fairly wet while washing down gear and it never soaked through or got cold. Great weight and compactable for backpacking. Also, I don't think the description mentions it, but the hand pockets do have some lining in them for warmth as well. Bonus!

Love this jacket so hard

I researched so many down jackets before I purchased this one from OR. I even bought a Northface jacket and returned it because it was ill fitting. This coat came pdq and it was love at first sight. I wanted a lightweight but warm jacket for walking the dog, doing errands around town and for traveling. This jacket does it all. I live in Boston and already its been in the 20s and the jacket is toasty. The sleeves are made of slighty more rugged material than the body-which is a likely spot for a snag. The zipper is easy, the pockets are easily accessible and fleecey inside. There are big pockets inside for mittens or a hat too. I travel during the holidays and it's freezing here and hot there so I dont want to lug a big heavy coat on the plane. This coat weighs nothing and will make a nice pillow. Buy this coat - you wont regret it.
