Nice pants but sizing didn't work for me.

These seem well designed overall - light, warm, good zippers & pockets, good mobility. And I really like the Alpha Direct insulation (love the Ascendant jacket!). But I tried both the L and XL and the fit didn't work for me on either. The waist on the large was about right but it was a bit too short, and there seemed to be a lot of extra material below the crotch. The length on the XL was good, but then the waist was too loose and there isn't a good way to tighten it (and the crotch was even baggier). For reference, I usually wear 36x34 pants (or 35x33 if they come in odd sizes), with 34x32 almost always being too tight & short. Here, the L felt like a 36x32, and the XL felt like a 38x34. OR tops generally fit me perfectly but their pants/shorts are very hit/miss, and this was a miss. Too bad though - if they do fit you they would be a great midlayer for cold/wet days, or a nice outer for cold/dry days where you are moving a lot.

Excellent Winter Pants

I wear these pants all the time. I got them when the weather started to turn earlier this year, and it was a wonderful decision. I bought them to wear while hiking, which then expanded to walking the dog and even lounging around the house. Now they're every-day winter pants for me. Super warm and pretty breathable. I briefly considered using them for backcountry skiing, just so I wouldn't ever have to take them off, but unfortunately the ankle opening isn't wide enough to fit over my boots. The only place for improvement I can think of is there is no way to adjust the waist. Thankfully I got a size that fits me well, and there are loops for suspenders if you need them. But belt loops or some method of adjusting the waist would be nice. Overall, I think everyone should own a pair of these pants.

Awesome winter pants

Super comfortable and warm pants. I've worn them hiking a few times and they kept me nice and warm. They've also stood up to my dogs nails quite a few times (she's a jumper).

Awesome pant. Great for layering.

Great pant. Comfy and warm. Ive been putting on pants for a long time now, but somehow my feet keep getting hung up getting them on. I'll figure it out.

Perfect mid layer

These are the perfect mid layer for cold weather. They will keep you warm under anything from casual jeans to waterproof hiking pants. Their flexibility makes them warms and comfortable. Their exterior makes them decent in the wet. I highly recommend!

definitely keeps me warm

I got these for ice climbing. Great for that. Kept me warm and dry with a thin base layer under it when it was -5F out. I am 5'10" and 195lbs and a 34/30 in jeans size, these fit me well. With no belt loops, I can see suspenders might be needed if I was hiking in them for a couple of hours.

Would be nice if there was a way to tight it at the hips.

Would be nice if there was a way to tight it at the hips. Need to add fasteners for a belt.

One minor change and these would be great!

I wanted to use these for backcountry skiing and some cross country but they don't fit over unbuckled AT boots for the skin uphill.

Ready to sit at the adult table? ... Almost, but not yet.

Exciting! Looking forward to more use of this application of Alpha!! Smooth, internal knee lining are great. As well as the attempt at articulation... In real world use- these pants miss the mark regarding waist/length options (almost laughably. How the heck did that get approved, lol). The fabric on thighs and above- great. Knees and below- just not resilient enough for the stitching, articulation, or any general abrasion. Suggest thigh fabric the whole way through. (Similar to the second gen ascendant jacket... As I guess I expected and never confirmed.) All in all- this generation isn't for me. I hate to say it... Because you can bet I'll be trying the next and waiting with much anticipation.

I was wondering the fit of the pants. Are they tighter, next to skin or do they allow for a base layer under (mid to heavy weight merino for example).

Joe, the Ascendant pants are designed as a closer fitting mid layer, that would accommodate a very light base layer if needed

Can I get these with a 30 inch inseam, waist is 33-34?

Hi M, These pants have a proportional inseam and are not available in a 33-34" waist with a 30" inseam. Based on your waist size, we would recommend a size Medium, which have a relaxed waist of 32", stretched waist of 36", and an inseam of 32". A size Small has a relaxed waist size of 30", stretched waist of 34", and an inseam of 31", however, you may experience discomfort in the waist. Thanks for contacting OR
