We're happy to welcome mountain biker and adventure filmmaker Joey Schusler to the Outdoor Research ambassador team! Raised in Colorado, Joey dived headlong into mountain biking, racing downhill professionally. But lately, he's transitioned from racing to more adventure-focused riding—like bikepacking in the Cordillera Huayhuash, and bike touring in Norway from ski destination to ski destination. He's taken his camera—and video camera—along, and built a reputation for capturing unique adventures and characters in films like 55 Hours and the soon-to-be-released RJ Ripper. Here are a few of our get-to-know-you questions for him. Find more on his ambassador page.
What are your top three favorite OR gear items?
The Deviatior is a go-to for almost any trip. Also loving the Helium II jacket for bikepacking and spring skiing. The Seattle Sombrero also just came in really handy up in Alaska for 21 days of mostly rain!
What's your favorite "backyard" adventure?
Super Longs Peak bike, to hike, to climb, to ski, to bike. It’s stupid and awesome and ridiculously fun door to door.
What's your favorite trail snack?
A bag of smashed corn chips with almonds, sour patch kids, m&ms, pistachios, and sesame sticks. Basically a random assortment of carbs with sugar or sodium that tastes absurdly great.
