Check Out Our All-New Women's Fit

For nearly 20 years, we’ve been designing women’s-specific gear to outfit our community—you!—on your favorite adventures. And the more you get out there, pursuing your favorite trails, mountains, and waterways, the more we get to hear about how our gear works and fits for you.

Thanks to all of your hard work and input, we are beyond excited to announce a new and improved fit for the female athlete.  These changes are the result of a multi-year endeavor to find the best way for ladies to move, layer, and dress for the adventures they crave.

In the above video, Outdoor Research design tech manager Kim Stanford weighs in on the why, what, and how we changed our women’s fit for Fall 2018.

Over the years, we heard consistent feedback from our athletes, product testers, and from you – through social media, customer service queries, and in-store feedback. Many of you told us
that our women’s apparel ran a little tight for the sports you pursue, and we hear you loud and clear. Yes, we’re listening! And you’ll be happy to hear that your feedback has made a direct impact on our product design. We think you’re going to love how your suggestions turned out.

From here on out, Outdoor Research fit philosophy will center on movement, layering, and strength. Here are a few specific ways you’ll see these archetypes come into play.

MOVEMENT. One of the biggest part of being an athletic woman means that you’re constantly active and need clothing that allows an extreme range of motion. So for each of our Fall 2018 pieces moving forward, our improved fit standards allow for better range of motion, reach, and comfort whether you’re reaching for a crimper or kicking high steps up steep snow. We’ve also adjusted the circumference in the bust so you can move and stretch unrestricted.

LAYERING. When the weather takes a turn for the worse, we know you’re still out there chasing your favorite sports – only difference is you need a little extra room to layer up for the cold. Each of our mid and outer layers now accommodate for those foul weather days with roomier fits that allow you to adjust your layering system to keep you warmer and drier for longer.

STRENGTH. We know you’re powerful – crushing summits like a stairmaster, and we know you’re always growing and training for a new adventure. We made sure you’re given the appropriate circumference and room in your glutes, seat, and upper thighs for strenuous cardio days. Same goes for the back of your favorite jackets, so you can flex your lats, biceps, and shoulders without worrying about Hulk-ing off your top. Finally, we’ve allowed more room around your core as you build up that 6-pack. Because nobody should feel confined by the hard work they put into making their body a super-strong mountain-crushing machine.

While you’re browsing the site, pay attention to the type of “Fit” you’re looking for:

  • Trim Fit that’s cut close and moves with the wearer
  • Standard Fit for a looser, comfortable fit in both technical and casual apparel
  • Relaxed Fit for a baggier style that allows the wearer to move within

These changes only affect Fall 2018 styles on, marked with a NEW stamp. Your old favorites will remain the same, exactly as you’ve loved them in the past.

We can’t wait for you to try the new fit that you helped develop. So go on, get out there, and let us know what you think!
