We love our national parks—because they're where we can get away from it all. The pristine nature, the quiet ... but none of that is guaranteed to stay protected, and this year our parks are under dire threat.
Legislation was introduced this week that would take power away from national parks to control drilling rights. Instead of giving the parks more power to protect their land, H.J.Res.46 would take the legislation back to 40-year-old standards—which conservation groups say are not sufficient. Here is a Washington Post article sharing more details about the legislation.
H.J. Res. 46 is one of many recent moves by federal lawmakers looking to loosen environmental protections in our national parks. If these protections are removed, drilling could put the parks' air, water and wildlife at risk. And we won't stand for it.
