Sea kayaks, by their very nature, are difficult to turn quickly. When conditions demand timing and agility, it’s important to have a wide range of tools to choose from that will put you where you want to be, when you want to be there. The Haghighi is a turning stroke that uses the back of the blade to combine a powerful reverse sweep with a support stroke. This allows you to quickly spin your kayak while maintaining a strong, stable edge. In this video Leon Somme of Body Boat Blade International [LINK] demonstrates the haghighi on flat water, and offers some tips for mastering this challenging but effective stroke.
