The #OptOutsideLeftovers Contest
Planning to #OptOutside this Black Friday? Us too! Our headquarters, retail store, factory and warehouse will all be closed on Friday, Nov 29. And to celebrate, we’re hosting a wacky Instagram photo contest involving you, your Thanksgiving leftovers, nature, a hashtag, and lots of prizes. And while you're out there, make sure to practice Leave No Trace. Better yet, do the planet a favor and pick up some trash while you're at it!
Here’s everything you need to know to participate in the #OptOutsideLeftovers Contest this Friday through Sunday (Nov 29 - Dec 1).
Step 1: Pack Thanksgiving leftovers for a meal or a snack on your #OptOutside adventure or volunteer outing (Fri-Sun, Nov 29 - Dec 1).
Step 2: Creatively photograph the leftovers (or consumption thereof) in nature.
Step 3: Post your photo to the Instagram feed with #OptOustideLeftovers.
Announcing winners: On Monday, December 2, we will review every single entry with #OptOutsideLeftovers and announce the 10 winners. Winners will be notified on Instagram. Their photos will be showcased here on our blog as well as on our Instagram and Facebook accounts.
Post guidelines, rules and winner selection criteria: To be eligible to win, your photo must have (1) been taken in a natural environment, (2) showcase Thanksgiving leftovers, and (3) be posted to Instagram with #OptOutsideLeftovers. You cannot have your account set to "private." Beyond those things, we encourage you to get as creative as possible. We will be selecting our favorites based on the quality and creativeness of food, fun, photo and location. See example images throughout this article.
Location eligibility: Though everyone is welcome and encouraged to particpate, due to logistical and shipping constraints, only contestants from the US and Canada are eligible to win prizes.
Where can I view other people's entries? Just search #OptOutsideLeftovers on Instagram and past examples will pop right up.
Do I need to have Instagram to participate? Yes, and using #OptOutsideLeftovers is required. Sticking to one platform consolidates entries and makes our selection of winners logistically feasible. You can sign up to create an Instagram account here. Accounts must be set to "public."
Can I enter more than one photo? Yes, but you can only win once.
Do I have to go out on actual Black Friday? We understand that people’s work obligations or local weather conditions may not allow for getting out only on Friday proper. That’s why it’s okay to take your leftovers out anytime between Friday-Sunday (Nov 29 - Dec 1).
When can I post my photo entry to Instagram? Entires can be posted to Instagram anytime between Friday-Sunday (Nov 29 - Dec 1).
Can I post a video entry? Only photo entries are eligible to win prizes (though we want to see you videos too!). This creates a smoother, fairer, and more consistent process around the winner selection on Monday, December 2.
Does it have to be actual Thanksgiving leftovers? Of course. But for those who don’t have access to real leftovers, or want to cook something up in the spirit of Thanksgiving, please note that we will not be attempting to verify the freshness and authenticity of your leftovers.
When and where will winners be announced? We'll contact all 10 winners on Instagram messaging, and their photos will be showcased in a new article, here on our blog. A select few of them will also be shown on our Instagram.
