RATING AND REVIEWS

Great pack/camera bag

4

I bought this pack to use as a camera bag on a trip to the Big Island in Hawaii. The trip involved lots of hiking in varoius climates so I wanted something that would stand up to the weather and not scream "thousands of $ of gear inside" . I packed my gear (full frame DSLR and 3 lens) in individual padded cases and it all fir in nicely along with a robust first aid kit and a jacket. I placed some sleeping pad foam inside the pack against my back to smoth the edges of the gear. The setup was comfortable and did not look at all like a camera bag. I used a peak design clip on the shoulder strap to hold the camera when I was hiking and even though the pack straps are on the light side this setup worked well. Overall I'm very satisfied with this pack. The only thing I'd add to make it perfect would be some kind of minimal stiffing option both to support the load and to make packing easier but I realize my use case is somewhat unique.

Comfortable and lighter tan anything els in its size class

I got this pack for late fall and winter day hikes where I need something bigger than my 18-liter Isolation pack. It carries weight very well, sits on my back nicely, and is very light for its volume. I don't want a two-pound pack to carry a seven-pound load. The lack of pockets doesn't bother me. On a pack this side, the water bottle can't be reached when the pack is on, anyway. The only change I'd like to see would be a longer zipper and a bit more volume in the pocket, so it could take more than just a single ditty bag.

One of the best back packs I've ever bought. Exception is the lack of pockets. Has one front zipper pocket and one large compartment.

Great pack. Feels very durable. Only change I'd make would be to add a water bottle holder. Overall, very happy w/ this pack.

Solid summit or day pack

Great pack for its intended purpose. This bag secures tools, extra layers and other light weight items well. I would like to see this bag include a way to secure a water source.

Discussions

Does the back of this pack have any support or construction that either helps the bag maintain shape or aids in comfort? Or is the back just fabric?

Elizabeth

No foam back, but the pack keeps its shape well. The fabric has some stiffness, and the seam stitching and taping give it some structure. I made a compression strap from 3/8-inch grosgrain ribbon and laced it though the lash cutouts. The pack carries weight very well.

Hi Elizabeth, The back of the pack does not have any support. In conjunction with the shoulder straps, hip belt, and sternum strap it should aid in bearing the weight of the pack. The shoulder straps feature a honeycomb air mesh structure for exceptional breathability, and the sternum strap is able to slide up and down the track to ensure that you find the right spot to alleviate neck and shoulder pain.
