Great Jacket

Great versatility for everyday / casual use and great packability for mountain adventures.

Awesome lightweight jacket.

Loved this Jacket so much bought a second one for my son to use.

Excellent all around lightweight jacket

I wear this jacket for high energy activities in cold dry weather. Breathes very well, lightweight, comfortable and very wind resistant. It has become an essential part of my layering system and when it is really cold I wear it under a hard shell for extra warmth and breathability at a very low weight. It looks good too, so I also wear it as a light jacket around town

I am on my third Ferossi Hoody and will get another after this one. Love this jacket for around town and fair weather days in the mountains.

Great for sheding wind and staying flexible

I used this jacket to climb Mt Whitney. I needed a jacket that would shed wind, be stretchy enough to ice climb, be lightweight and pack-able. The Ferrosi Hooded jacket is the perfect match!

Great jacket - with one serious flaw

I'm 6'1", 200 lb, 44" chest. I purchased a Large; fits well over light layers, which is what I wanted. I use this jacket a lot. It's been my outer layer for trail riding, hiking, snowshoeing, around town, traveling in the campervan.... The fabric is stretchy, light, breathes well, and turns the wind without blocking. If I'm getting too much wind penetration it's time to add a windshirt or a hardshell. I did't think the fabric would be that durable, but so far it's survived brush, dogs, pack straps without a scratch. Three good pockets. Length is great, so is arm length. My only complaint, the reason the hoody gets 3 stars instead of 5, is the reason I bought it instead of the jacket: the hood. It's just poorly thought out. Too small to go over a helmet, but a bit too large for a head without a helmet, or at least my head without a helmet. Any time I tighten the drawcord around the face the hood pulls over my eyes. It really needs a volume adjust on the back. Also, despite pulling over my eyes, the hood offers poor coverage of my chin and neck. Really needs a rethink. I could probably have just purchased the jacket without hood for all the utility this hood brings. Very disappointing. Bottom line: I would recommend this to a friend - WITH the caveat that said friend should check the hood fit before deciding.

Best jacket i've owned

f I wore my Ferrosi all day for 8 days of ski touring in the Selkirks. Perfect layer over wool shirt for moving all day.

Daily wear for cool'ish weather

I have only had this jacket for a month but it's already become a go-to daily wear in California. It's just the right thickness to take the chill out of the air on a cool morning by itself or stacked with a thin polar-tec midlayer for cold mornings. It's quite breathable and, as all things from OR seem to be, feels like quality construction. The stretchy material is magical, I don't know what they make this out of but it's straight out of Hogwarts. Stretchy and soft and a perfect fit for me, I'm 5'11" and 155 lbs with a medium. I was concerned about having thumb holes as I rarely use those and I don't like the look of them, but they are completely hidden on this jacket and actually come in handy if you use it for a run in the morning. This will be a staple piece of gear for years to come.

Can't go wrong with Ferrosi

I have used the ferrosi pants and regular jacket for several years now. Decided to add the hooded jacket to my collection. Ferrosi hooded jacket is great for cool weather hikes or windy conditions. If there is more than just a light rain or snow, then I put a hard shell on to keep dry, but only as a last resort as I prefer the breathability of ferrosi fabric.

Great product!

I'm 6' 2" and weigh 190lbs with an athletic build. This shell fits me well with room for some layering underneath. Best suited for 3 seasons of wear. Great for use on the rocks or hiking.

I am 6'3'' tall, chest 40'' sleeve 35''. Should I get a M or a L?

Hi Hotzi, We'd recommend a Medium if you prefer your clothes to be fitted, it may be a little short in the sleeve, but it won't be as baggy compared to the Large. Thanks for contacting OR,

Hi. I'm 5' 9" tall, 145 pounds, with a 37/38 " chest. Would you recommend a small or medium? Thanks!

Hi Matt, We would recommend a size Small if you prefer your clothes to be fitted, a size Medium if you wanted it looser. Thanks for contacting OR,

What is the length of the sleeve for the size XXL and XL and how it is measured?

Hi markodecaja, The sleeve length for the XL is 36.5" and for the XXL is 37.5". It is measured from the Center Back to center of cuff (straight measurement). Thanks for contacting OR,

I am looking for a jacket with maximum ventilation and breathable with water resistance for hiking and scrambling in the rain. Would the Ferrosi or Valley rain jacket be better for this? Or is there a different product you would recommend?

Hi Robert, The Valley Jacket will not provide the maximum ventilation and breathability due to the materials. However, the jacket is waterproof and it does feature dual separating, TorsoFlo zippers, which if you do get warm or start to sweat you can open up to ventilate. This jacket would be ideal if you plan on using the jacket in extended periods of rain. The Ferrosi Jacket is water-resistant and provides excellent ventilation and breathability, the material is also very soft and lightweight. However, it is not ideal for an extended time (scrambling) in the rain. If you need a water-resistant jacket with more warmth, the Ascendant Jacket is another option. The Polartec Alpha Direct material is a little bit more durable and burlier than the Alpha material so you may have direct-to-skin contact without a layer in between the fabric and skin. This allows and helps move more moisture to the surface of the fabric to wick away moisture. Thanks for contacting OR, Paul

How should this jacket be washed/cleaned? Does it have a DWR coating that needs to be reapplied every once in a while? How should softshells be cared for in general?

Hi Caleb, Sorry for the late response. The Men's Ferrosi Hooded Jacket do have a DWR coating that needs to be refreshed occasionally. We recommend either using a small amount of non-detergent soap (or technical wash), and following up with an extra rinse cycle and a low heat tumble dry cycle. We recommend using Nikwax Tech Wash and Softshell Proof, they sell it as a pack (Softshell DuoPack). Thanks for contacting OR, Paul

Is the inside of the jacket lined? What is the texture?

The Ferrosi Hooded Jacket is not lined; the fabric feels the same on the outside as it does on the inside. It's a lightweight softshell fabric with a lot of stretch and breathability.

Hey there! I'm just curious if the ferrosi hoody is the same jacket as the jerrosi hooded jacket? I was interested in the ferrosi hoody but it seems to be all out of stock.

The Ferrosi Hooded Jacket is the updated version of the Ferrosi Hoody. The main difference is the construction of the pockets and the cuffs. (The Ferrosi Hooded Jacket has thumb holes at the cuffs; the Ferrosi Hoody doesn't.)
