A signature OR piece is now 20 percent warmer. The Floodlight Jacket is a better take on waterproof insulation: the Pertex® Shield+ shell keeps the 800-fill down inside dry, and thanks to feedback from Outdoor Research athletes, it now holds 20 percent more down for increased insulation, and is slightly longer at the hem for more coverage.

RATING AND REVIEWS

Very versatile layering piece

This isn't the warmest down jacket for the price. It has 3.3oz(96g) of down fill (according to OR), which isn't listed here. Montbell's Frostline Parka has around 7oz(200g) of down fill in comparison, and it costs $289. I would say it feels like a deep fall/early winter jacket rather than parka level warmth. That said, this is still my go to down jacket for many activities. I use this as a ski jacket, a rain jacket when bike commuting in Vancouver, a "belay parka" (easy to throw over my hardshell since it's waterproof), etc. It's really versatile. The "cons" are really just trade offs. It's not the lightest piece of insulation because of waterproofing and features like fleece lined pockets. Some people would prefer the modularity of having a separate hardshell and insulation piece, but I love the security of having a piece of insulation that is also completely waterproof. Highly recommend!

Nice jacket but not waterproof.

Use while snow blowing and jacket was soaked through after 2 1/2 hours. Love it other than that. Bought it specifically to use while blowing snow to stay warm and dry.

Great Jacket.

Great jacket. I went hiking in a forest (Somewhere in Washington) fighting my way through thorny bushes and came out expecting my jacket to be shredded. I was surprised to find that even though my palms were cut up, the jacket looked good as new. I have a 32 size waist and the jacket is a snug fit for me in the waistline without adjusting the draword. I have not worn or tested this in rain or temperatures below -10C. I recommend adding layers inside that holds in heat if it is near or below freezing temperatures.

Great Seattle winter daily jacket

4

This is my second time coming back to this jacket. I wear it daily in Seattle winters, and on some outdoor adventures. It is heavier than a non-waterproof down jacket, but I love the performance and that I don't need to bring a rain shell with it. It breathes well, is warm, packs reasonably well, has great coverage (good hood, long sleeves and torso, good zippers, etc). The materials have been top notch and the Pertex Shield has exceeded my expectations with waterproofing, breathability and how thin and light it is. It has changed the way I pack for a lot of situations and it's been a great jacket. I'm 6'2" and 165lbs with a 40" chest and 32" waist and the medium fits perfect... just enough to put one layer under, but not baggy or tight at all.

Expensive but not worth the price

I know it's 800 down. Doesn't feel too warm. Almost no insulation in the sleeves. Miss my Chaos jacket.

A great heavier weight waterproof piece of insulation

4

This is a great heavier weight down jacket. The pertex shield seems to truely protect both the down and yourself. My only con with the jacket is the zippers are the same vislol zipper that is on anther OR jacket I've had and they have failed due to loss teeth and the pulls struggling to stay on track. No issues yet, but I would prefer a coil zipper on this piece

The Jacket to grab when you head out the door!

5

While I can appreciate the use of multiple layers for some activities, sometimes you just want "a jacket." Something you can grab while headed out the door that will take care of you no matter what the weather does. The Floodlight Down Jacket by Outdoor Research has become that jacket for me. Nice and cozy with 800 fill goose down and, arguably more importantly, windproof and waterproof. All of this combines for a great jacket that will keep the weather out.

Money!

This Jacket is super warm! Perfect for setting up or hanging around camp in a cold climate. Too warm for strenuous activities such as skiing/snowboarding or hiking. Tested this out recently for a Cold Weather Medicine and Mountain Rescue class. I'm definitely buying another as a spare.

Very Warm Fits weird

The Floodlight is a very warm cozy piece of equipment. The fit is true to size unless you are a true XL. It i designed for big guys with no butt. Once the jacket is zipped up, good luck getting into a vehicle or sitting down on a chairlift, the bottom of this coat is constructed to more of a Large than an XL. I have a 36 inch waist and this coat is tight.

What is the total fill weight of this jacket?

Hank

96 grams of 800 fill down in our mens floodlight down jacket

Q&A_Admi

Mine has lost its water repellency, what can I treat it with?

nick

Nick, we recommend a nikwax down wash for the floodlight which will revive your outer DWR and also apply the DWR to the down on the inside of the jacket, make sure to dry with some tennis balls to unclump the wet down from the washin treatment
