RATING AND REVIEWS

Ridiculously, ludicrously good

5

Going into my second season of hard use with these pants. I bought my normal size, and I think I could have downsized by a size. Breathable, great articulation, durable, comfortable, surprisingly water resistant. It's my go-to pant for all my PNW alpine trips. Works great for rock climbing- the softshell material is durable and can handle the abuse. I find it the perfect thickness to block wind and trap enough heat so I don't get cold. Works great for snow and glacier travel. It's starting to see a bit of wear, but that just means that you're getting after it.

I would buy this again

Primarily I will use the pants for casual wear. I will also wear them on hiking trips.

You can't destroy these pants...

5

I wear these at least once a week, sometimes 4-5 days a week. Travel, backpacking, and laying around the house these are my go to pants. Love them...

Indestructable

5

After two years of constant abuse ice/mixed climbing and ski touring, and another year of rock climbing they have no rips and the zips are good. eventually had to replace a drawcord but that was easy. the zippers are exactly where you want them and the articulation is good for technical movement or approaches. Way more comfortable than the cirque pants but not as warm. All DWR eventually wears off. Once this happened they graduated to become my rockclimbing pants. I tried my best to destroy them, offwidthing, kneebaring, etc. Still no rips. And still repel snow well for how worn out they are. If you want them to be water resistant for more than a season then look elsewhere, but this is a softshell I would buy again.

Awesome pants but way too short!

The stitching is holding up just fine and there's no serious pilling even though I've climbed a couple dozen days in them so their durability is above average for light softshell pants. If you aren't super skinny and tall these should do the trick for spring and fall objectives perfectly well with the tiny bit of insulation the pants provide. I wear a 30x32 (5'11" and 155lb or so) and the size 30 pants would be accurately described as a 30x30. So aside from them not fitting me lengthwise by a couple inches, they are really good pants. Seems the zipper pockets don't walk open as much as on other OR pants such as the Goldrush jeans or the Cirque pants (which I cannot recommend highly enough for ice climbing).

I live in these pants, at home, travel and on the trail!

5

I've used these pants climbing, on the trail, traveling and just relaxing at home. They are extremely durable. After 6 months of abuse now they still look brand new. With a perfect amount of stretch and extremely lightweight, I haven't tried on a more comfortable pair of pants. Next to the Floodlight jacket this is my favorite piece of OR gear. Thanks!

Favorite OR Pants

5

I think these might be the best pants OR makes. The material feels incredible and they perform great. Now, the fit is perfect for me, but I should note, I do think the waist is "too big" and the length is "too short" if we're going off sizing numbers. I usually wear a size 32 (waist) pant and the 30 Prusik fits me perfect. My inseam is usually a 30 and I think this pant has a 31-30" inseam as opposed to the 32" as advertised. That's awesome for me (5'8") maybe not so much for a taller person. I've found OR seems to run a little large in the waist though, so if you've bought OR pants before, I'd stick to your OR size. The first time I took these out, it was on a chilly 35* morning up in the mountains. I was doing mostly off trail stuff and spent 1-2 hrs bushwhacking through really wet, waist high vegetation. For anybody that has done that, you know your pants get soaked. I was surprised how well these shed water and performed overall. I also never got cold, never got hot. I really can't think of anything negative to say about these pants.

Inseam too short after re-design

4

I bought these for winter hiking and really like them for that purpose. They're heavy enough to fend off a cold breeze, breathable enough to be worn while exerting yourself, and seem tough. I'm 5'10" 170lb and wear a 30/32 pant. I originally purchase a Fall 2015 model and found the size 30 to fit well everywhere, except a bit too loose in the waist. The snap button broke and I received a Spring 2017 pair under warranty, which fit better in the waist but the inseam is 2" shorter than the previous pair. I'd highly recommend the pants only if the shorter inseam works for you.

Discussions

Are these pants appropriate for 3-season backpacking? Do they have reinforced knee, hip, or seat areas to protect against abrasion? I bought the Cirque pants, but worry they are too heavy (weight).

Trey

Hi Trey, The Prusik pants would be appropriate for 3-season backpacking, however, depending on the weather conditions you may run hot. These pants do not have any reinforced areas for extra abrasion resistance. Thanks for contacting OR,

Paul

Does this pant fabric have a DWR coating?

Simon

Hi Simon, Yes, the pants have been treated with DWR. The fabric is rated at 80/20. This is an industry measure of durability that suggests that 80% DWR is retained after 20 washings. In reality this rating is for laboratory test procedure only and is not realistic for home washings. Thanks for contacting OR, Paul

Does the prusik pant or the Cirque pant come in a long size? I'm tall and skinny, usually wear a 30 waist 34 inseam.

Seth

Neither the Prusik nor Cirque pants come in a long inseam length.

Jordan

How do these compare in fabric feel and weight to the Voodoo pants?

AKPackrafter

The fabric feels very similar, although it's slightly softer on the inside. The weight is very comparable to the Voodoo Pants as well.
