RATING AND REVIEWS

perfect combination of tech and style

5

Feels like I'm slipping into my warm sleeping bag every time I put it on. 6' 2", 220 lbs and the XL fits perfectly.

Comfy, warm, and stylish

Great product. I haven't had it very long and it hasn't gotten cold (~30f). But so far this fall this jacket and a tee shirt are all I've needed around town and on walks. Jacket feels like it will do the job on cold winter days. The fabric is really sturdy and seems like it will hold up. My only issue is the inside pocket, there is only one and its on the right side. As someone who is right handed I wish there was one on the left.

Somewhat trim fit

Great jacket, though fit is a bit tight. I am 5'10 and 180lbs and having a midlayer would make this jacket fairly tight fitting. Overall, great jacket, just make sure you try it on first.

Rugged, Warm, and Looks Great!

5

Has a very durable finish, much tougher stuff than the Transcendent series which I like. May not need it but it gives me peace of mind that it should last that much longer. Seems to be water resistant though I have yet to test it in rain or snow. The detachable hood is nice and is warm enough that I haven't felt a need to use it yet in 40 degree weather. The pockets feel awesome and are in a great spot. Only problem for me with Outdoor Research's stuff is that I sit between their Large and X-Large for pretty much everything. Large is usually too short for sleeves but X-Large a touch more bulky than I'd like. I am of narrower build with lanky arms (6' 4", 210 lbs and wear a 36" sleeve in dress shirts) and so even that level of fit is awesome. An X-large for OR is a slim by comparison to many other brands.

Nearly perfect, but...

This jacket is close to perfect. Redesigned it could be awesome. That said, the external chest pockets are too small even for a cell phone, and placed so high on the chest as to me almost inaccessible. The internal pocket is too small and place better for left-handed users.

Nice coat

Looks great. 6'1 185. X-Large perfect sleeve length. Extra room in chest. Not ideal but hard to fit everyone.

Best All Around Burly Winter Jacket

5

This is the jacket for those who need an all around cold winter jacket with a burly, tough outer shell, plenty of warmth for subzero days, and flexible uses. From graveling under the truck changing the oil to throwing on a jacket and skinning up a ridge for a few turns, this jacket is flexible....and the removable hood makes the coat comfortable in less cold weather. An excellent coat for anytime up at high elevations as well. It's surprisingly packable too! Just enough room for Heavy layering when needed, if ordering your regular size. Best "tough and warm" winter coat that is "non-alpinist active wear" in styling, but comparable in performance!

Not as warm as expected

I am ok with cold weather but not a huge fan. I thought this down jacket would be fine in 20 degree weather. It's not. Ok for 30+ with light wind. Less than that I need to put on layers, down vest, hoodie. But because it is a tight fit there's not much room to add on layers. Used it in Grand Tetons in late September and I was a bit cold in early morning walks. The jacket is of good quality and stylish but it's NOT for really cold weather.

Functional, Multi-Use, and Stylish Jacket

5

I'd recommend wearing this jacket around town, in between hikes, during hikes, or out doing light work. The things I described were highly varied--hinting at it's multi-use properties. This is an overall great jacket with high functionality, a stylish fit, and sleek appearance. I had to wait for the color I wanted (black) until later in the season, but haven't stopped wearing it since it arrived. As a commuting student and weekend adventurer, this jacket fits both of these needs in the cold north of Minnesota.

Don't buy anything else if you work in freezing conditions

I use this coat for freezing temps, below zero wear. It often gets so warm while working and driving I have to take it off.
