RATING AND REVIEWS

I LOVE IT!

5

I absolutely love this jacket! Since the day I got it I have worn it almost everyday. I wore it around the world and back at home, and snowshoeing. Its warm in dry and wet cold places, its breathable and all around great for everything I have put it through. Its awesome having the hood there as an option to keep a little extra warmth in. Its great under waterproof layers to block wind and water and has the insulation to keep you warm. It is really true to size. I hope you enjoy this jacket too!

Perfect Northwest Everyday hiking jacket

5

I have never been a hoody person, but I am now sold with the Women's Ascendant Hoody. I had recently bought the same jacket without the hood, which I also love, but the hood is great for sheltering me from rain and boosting my warmth. I live in the Pacific Northwest and the Ascendant Hoody is perfect for those days where it is threatening rain. I don't want to wear my rain jacket, which is less comfortable and breathable, but I want to be prepared in case it does start raining. I got caught out in a down pour once with my Ascendant jacket and it kept me completely dry for the 1/2 hour it took to get back home. I decided to test its limits on a 2 1/2 hour hike in which it was raining hard the whole time, and it did leak through on the shoulders somewhat, but, for a jacket that is not touted to be waterproof (just water resistant), it did really well. I will still use my rain jacket for future similar conditions but most of the time it is either light rain or threatening where I live, so the Ascendant is my choice for my daily 2 hour hike in the Northwest Woods. I am also a professional guide, and the Ascendant is rugged, good looking, and light enough to take guiding with me. It will be my constant companion in my daypack for an extra layer and for wear on and off the trail. I love this jacket! I never knew what I was missing.

My favourite layer

5

My partner and I both have the ascendant hoody. It's my go to layer for day to day wear and outdoor adventures. Fits well under a ski shell, not to bulky, moves with no restrictions. Sheds water better than a fleece, better wind protection and longer lasting. I love this piece.

Size up for layering

I liked this jacket, however I ended up returning it. I am 5'7' and 125 lbs with long arms and legs. I found the small to be a bit too snug in the hip area, which would not allow for layering underneath the jacket. The jacket itself was very lightweight and felt warm.

I love this hoody!

This jacket is the answer to my mid layer problem. Recently on 30 degree days it was my top layer on back country ski tours because of the minimal insulation and the hood.

Awesome mid layer

Bought this for my partner and she loves it. Super light weight and deceptively warm. Very breathable too. It's the perfect winter later for activities.

The climb a mountain then head to town Jacket

5

I bought this jacket to replace a mid-layer puffy that I had. I was bit hesitant about it because I was worried that it wouldn't be warm enough or be able to stand the kind of abuse I am going to put it through. So far I cant take this Jacket off! I used it to prepare for a mountaineering trip and while on the trip itself. I have also used it as my nice "around town" jacket and often get compliments on it. It performed well in windy, cold conditions and kept me warm. The hood is helmet compatible which is nice to be able to quickly pull that over if the wind kicks up. I like the fleece layer on the inside and the the thoughtfulness of leaving the fleece off the shoulders as this wear a pack would wear or keep you warmer. I also love that there is a chest pocket. Very practical and functional. The only thing that I would maybe like to see different is zipper hand pockets. I go back and forth with that because having the open pocket means I can put my hands in to warm them up quick, especially given that they are fleece lined. However, I don't feel like I can store anything in them for fear of it falling out. Overall, if you are looking for a hardworking, functional and stylish jacket... this is it!

Best layer ever

I use this as a mid layer while ski touring, and it was amazing, I could t believe how light and breathable it was while also being super warm. There's a fleece ish liner that also makes it super cozy for just hanging out in.

Discussions

How do the Ascendant Hoody and the Uberlayer Hoody compare in terms of warmth, breathability, water resistance, fit?

Stillgoing

Hi Stillgoing, The Ascendant Hoody has a little less warmth, much more breathable, and a little more water resistance. The Uberlayer is about an 1" smaller in the chest, otherwise they fit the same. Thanks for contacting OR,

Paul
