Great for Colorado summits!

Absolutely love this pant. Used them last winter climbing some of Colorado's Winter 14er's and the pant held up well against the conditions, albeit not very well to my crampons. Thin, but awesome material, and it breathes very well. Dont expect these to be as durable as a pair of Gore-Tex Pro pants, but dont give up on them. For the price, you cant beat them

Love the quality/features, not crazy about the fit

I really enjoy the quality and features of these pants, the reason for the 4 Star and not 5 Star rating is due to the fit. The fit is described at "Trim," but I do not agree that these are a trim fitting pant. I prefer a slimmer pant when hiking, but these seem pretty baggy to me, which is odd because a number of the reviews that I read stated they liked the trimmer fit. It may be because I'm between sizes, but I'm not sure. I'm 6ft tall and have a 33" waste so the Medium waste is too small, and Large is actually too big but since I use these in winter and have least one, if not two layers underneath, the extra size in the waste is needed and manageable with the extra layer and a belt. Even though these aren't a trim fit (in my opinion), they are so lightweight that I don't feel the extra fabric through the leg is so heavy/baggy that it gets in the way or is a nuisance when hiking, which is why I'm keeping the pants. Aside from the fit not being what I expected out of a "trim" pant, I really enjoy the features of these. As I mentioned before, they're super lightweight, and do seem waterproof and windproof in my limited experience so far with them (3 hikes in various conditions, from knee high powder to packed to slushy trails). My favorite feature is definitely the full length side zips. I've always struggled with my pants layering system in winter, trying to stay warm in those sub-zero temps above treeline but often getting too warm while on the ascent that I start sweating. The full length side zips make it super easy to vent and control how warm I get. Overall I like the pants, just not crazy about the fit of them.

Best pant ever!

These pants are amazing! I wear them for cross-country skiing and backcountry skiing. My ski boots do fit inside the pants. They are super comfortable and I can wear them all day as I work in the field and an office. great pant, lightweight, comfortable and water proof.

good ice pant

Good pants, perfect for ice climbing. My only complaint is that the thin fabric is no match for crampons but not much of a problem if you don't often catch your leg.

Waterproof Tech with Sweatpants Feel

I was taken aback by the fit and comfort of these shell pants: I would wear them all day lying around on the couch if that was something I did! The AscentShell material is soft and pliable, which make for the comfortable fit, and also proved to be extremely effective on the mountain--going both up in crampons and down on skis. I really like the built-in gaiter material and the boot stirrup, which allow me to wear the pant without additional gaiters on balmy days in the mountains and still keep out snow and wetness. The zippers are smooth and weather-proofed, and a major improvement on the entry/exit and venting features on previous shell pants I've owned and worn. The pants are super lightweight, but lined sufficiently that they hold up on their own in chilly weather without warming layers, but don't fit too tightly that you cannot layer. (I'm 6'2" and 195lbs and most of that is in my legs, so I typically struggle to find pants in which I can maneuver freely--as with any long technical pant, one cannot move as easily as in shorts or lightweight summer climbing kit, but the Bolin is pretty stellar.)

First impressions

**This is my first impression review, this is not extensive review.** I am a 6', 160Lbs, 32" waist athletic built. Bolin Pants are almost everything I wanted, same membrane material as the Realm Jacket which is awesome. I can vouch for the Ascent material being noticeably more breathable, comfortable, windproof and waterproof. Bolin Pants has just about every feature you could want in a pant, 3/4 side zips, good pockets, front fly, quiet material and belt loops. The built in gaiters are pretty neat too. I ordered both the medium and size large, as I am between sizes with a lot of brands and have to size up. OR is no exception. The medium, with just a pair of my lightest base layer pants (capilene 1), will just not fit me. There is just too little room in the seat and thigh area for me to move reasonably. I tried again with the size large, there is enough room seat and thigh areas (barely) while being very loose around my waist. and ankles. That said, I can see why the Bolin pant are labeled as trim fit. They barely fit my physique, I could make them work by skipping "leg day" for a year. However , really tips off my low rating is the inner material tends to "grab" and you will need the slickest of base layers or no layers at all in order to let them glide for easier movement and range of motion.. They do not have enough stretch to counter this. There is also a typo on the product page "Weight : 26.4oz / 748g Avg. Weight for size L" It should read "13 ¾ oz. 393g L"

what is the waist size and inseam length of L and XL? do these cuffs fit over lightweight backcountry ski boots? thanks!

Hi John, A size Large has a 36" waist and a 33" inseam. A size XL has a 39" waist and a 34" inseam. These pants will not fit over ski boots. Thanks for contacting OR,

sizing chart is confusing me, how do I tell what the waist size or inseam length is for sizes like L and XL?

Hi John, The waist and inseam measurement for a size Large is 36" and 33", respectively. The waist and inseam for a size XL is 39" and 34", respectively. Thanks for contacting OR,

Maybe I'm missing something but i don't see anything linking the sizing guide (i.e. 32 inch waste) to the pant sizes?

Hi Kevin, The pants have a waist measurement of 28" for an XS, goes to a 30" waist for the Small, then increases 3" for each additional size up from Small. The inseam measurement starts at 30" for an XS and increases 1" for each additional size up. Thanks for contacting OR, Paul

Will the Bolin cuff fit over plastic 4 buckle telemark boots?

Hi slothy, The Bolin cuff will not fit over the ski boots. The Skyward Pants use the same AscentShell material and would be better suited to fit over ski boots. Other alternatives include: Furio, White Room, Igneo, OffChute, and Blackpowder. Thanks for contacting OR, Paul

Are there pockets in the back?

U Stuart

Hi U Stuart, There are no pockets in the back. Thanks for contacting OR, Paul

Are the side-zips full-length?

Hi Alex, Sorry for the late response. The Bolin Pants feature a 3/4 length side zipper. Thanks for contacting OR, Paul

Hi I'm just wondering about the fit of these pants. I currently have the foray pant in size Large that fit me well, and was wondering how the trim fit of the bolin pants effects what size i should order. The pants are sized Small, Medium, Large, etc etc but the size chart is in inches or centimeters so Im not really sure what size i need. my main concern is I have larger thighs and will be wearing a normal pair of pants under the bolin pant, which is fine with a standard fit.

Hi Matt, In size Medium in the Bolin Pants have a Relaxed waist - 33" Thigh Width (measured 2" from crotch) - 25.25" In size Large the Bolin Pants have a Relaxed waist - 36" Thigh Width - 27" In size Large the Foray Pants have a Relaxed Width - 33" Thigh Width - 28" Thanks for contacting OR, Paul

Are the side zips full length?

Hi Micaiah, the side zips of the pants are 3/4 length side zippers. Thanks for contacting OR!
