Light Weight Rain Jacket

5

It's Summer now, so I have only worn this a few times in light rain.

Suitable for Alaska's harsh weather

Served me well in a recent trip to Alaska - with the exception of the aforementioned comments. Was in some very harsh (wet, wind, driving rain) conditions. happy I had it.

Will always have a foray

5

I use this jacket year round. An excellent piece of gear that is light weight and stowable, perfect for backpacking, canoeing, and general travel. This is my third foray I have 1 that is a size larger than normal when I just want a quick poncho over all my gear and now 2 large (I am 6" 200lbs) 1 for bush bashing that has a few small tears that have been gorilla taped up and 1 that is for less rugged applications. Throw a transcendent hoodie on under this and you are good to -15.

Awesome!

5

Awesome jacket. I've used it several times in the rain and it kept me dry and comfortable. The hood peak covered my OR trucker hat perfectly. Lightweight and easy to show away on your pack. The size (large) was perfect for my frame (6'1", 190 lbs.). Excellent for backpacking or casual use. The pit zips are great for ventilation during a high output activity. Highly recommended. Excellent value.

Applause to OR

Recently we have had horrible weather here in the mountains of western North Carolina. With that being said, a couple of friends and I had a great opportunity to test out some recent wet weather gear purchases. Between the three of us, we had an Arc'teryx Alpha SV, an Arc'teryx Beta AR, and my Outdoor Research Foray... ALL 3 Jackets are GoreTex, and it's a good thing they were. It absolutely poured on us for about 10.6 miles of the Mountains to Sea trail. I was curious to see how the Foray stood up to the "almighty" Arc'teryx line (with their GoreTex PRO)... and I must say, it performed EXTREMELY well! The Beta AR wetted out alarmingly fast. But was still able to keep the user dry, as the Foray, and the Alpha SV kept the water beading up and rolling off quickly... eventually the pounding rain got the better of the Foray before the Alpha SV. But it's also $500 cheaper. And from what the user said, the Alpha didn't breathe nearly as well as he'd hoped it would. So standing in at $500 cheaper than the Alpha SV, I'd say I got the best bang for the buck... The Torso-Flo pit zips were the talk of the bunch when we were taking our breaks with the packs off. (Very nice with a concealed carry as well). My hats off to this jacket, and a round of applause to OR... very impressed... and I absolutely LOVE the hops green!

Very functional

Great water proof and breathable jacket. Fit is pretty good. My only issue is the hood, it seems that is can be rolled and tucked in but it doesn't work very well and will pull the jacket down in a weird way.

Perfect lightweight jacket

5

Great jacket- I am a 5'9" woman and bought this for the longer arms, as women's sizes often have sleeves that are too short for me. I like the narrower cut; this jacket is not bulky or clumsy feeling under a backpack or when working outside. The sealed zippers are great and it sheds water like a champ! This will be my new backpacking go-to rain jacket for sure.

As an avid hiker in the Pacific Northwest this jacket has had to perform as advertised. It does. It has exceeded my expectations in performance and comfort.

What is the center back length of the large size?

Herbie

Hi Herbie, The center back length for a size Large is 31". Thanks for contacting OR,

Paul

What is the center back length of the jacket? I would like to make sure none of my mid layers will stick out. Thanks

kyle_kb

Hi kyle_kb, The Center Back Lenght of the jacket starts at 29" for a size Small and increases 1" for each additional size up. Thanks for contacting OR,

Paul

Would this jacket be flexible enough or well suited for trail running and/or mountain biking? How is the durability to withstand a mountain bike crash?

John

Hi John, We don't have a jacket that is durable enough to withstand a mountain bike crash. If you're looking for a well ventilated and stretchy jacket, the Men's Boost Jacket is one that we would recommend. If you need rain protection the Men's Realm or Axiom Jacket would be better suited due to the breathable fabric. The Men's Foray Jacket would work, however, it doesn't breathe as well as the Realm or Axiom. The Foray does have pit zips so it may help with ventilation. Thanks for contacting OR,

Paul

Men's Foray Jacket Sizing - By your chart I should get a Medium. However, I need to be able to wear a heavy fleece and/or a down vest under this. Would either, or both of those fit under a Medium, or should I go up a size? Most of my jackets (from many companies) lean toward size Large.

GTH

Hi GTH, A size Medium has a 46" chest, which is measured 1" under arm hole. A size Large has a 49" chest. If you would like to layer both a heavy fleece and down vest underneath this jacket, you may need to go with a size Large. Thanks for contacting OR,

Paul

Can you use this rain jacket for running?

Ruhnner

Hi Ruhnner, While this jacket can be used for running, it may not be the most ideal due to the weight and bulk of the jacket. The Boost Jacket would be our best running jacket due to the ventilation. For cold weather running (30s to 50s) the Deviator Hoody would be great. We do have a lightweight rain jacket called the Helium Hybrid Hooded Jacket. It isn't completely waterproof due to the softshell material, but it would provide the best of both worlds, rain protection where you need it most and ventilation/breathability to dump heat. Thanks for contacting OR,

Paul

does the hood tuck away in the collar

Thomas

Hi Thomas, The hood doesn't tuck away in the collar, however, it does roll up and can be stowed away via the hood roll tab (above the interior center back seam). Simply roll the hood forward, insert the hood roll tab through the loop on the back of the jacket, and secure the hood with the Velcro on the hood roll tab. Thanks for contacting OR,

Paul

On Men's Foray Jacket, Large, what is the back length and the sweep?

Cindy

Hi Cindy, In size Large, the centerback (CB) length of the jacket is 31" and the sweep is 48" Thanks for contacting OR, Paul

Does the hood stow away when its not being used?

kuato

The hood can be stowed using the Hood Roll Tab featured on the interior of the hood.

Paul

How does the left pocket function as a stuff sack?

lam

Hi Iam, The Left-Hand Pocket becomes a stuff sack for the jacket. To use that feature you, invert the Left-Hand Pocket, move the material of the jacket into the pocket, and zip to close https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q58XzuMqEf0 The video above shows the opposite sequence happening, but shows how the jacket would look like stuffed into the pocket. Thanks for contacting OR! Paul

Hi, what are the actual measurements of this in a size Large? Thanks

Lee

Hi Lee, the measurements of a size Large Foray Jacket are: Chest - 49" Sweep - 48" Sleeve Length - 36.5" (center back to center of cuff - straight measurement) CB length - 31" Zipper - 30" If you have any other questions reach out to us at [email protected] Cheers!
