Perfect base layer! (Review by Amber )

I wear this as my second layer with a shell over top. Super comfortable, thick enough to wear alone when it warms up, handy pockets. The hood is very warm and perfect layered over a thin hat. I usually wear a small and did have to size up to medium.

Great running addition (Review by runnermare )

This is a great light weight piece for layering for any outdoor activity. It has been my go to top layer for runs this winter. Attached hood is convenient for extra protection. Deep pockets with secure key snap and breast zip pocket are two features that I appreciate.

Ok, but not great (Review by RunsInTheTrees)

I have been looking for a top like this for a while and really wanted to love this top, but it just has a few fatal flaws. First, it is too short in the front (the back is tailed and thus fine in length)! This is one of my biggest pet peeves. I wore this running and backcountry skiing, and in both cases (far more with running) it was too short in the front and came up enough to create a cold air gap as my arms moved. Very annoying. The bottom also flares out too much (to accommodate hips???) and if you use the elastic band to pull it in, the design of it pulls the front right of the hem up creating an even bigger issue in short length. It also fits pretty snug. I am a true small (5'6", 125 lbs) and could only fit a single, thin layer underneath. The pros are that it really does conduct heat well and the hood is snug and sleeves long (thank you for that!). The blue color is really nice. If it were longer in front length I would give it a higher rating, but cold air gaps are the worst!

love this layer (Review by nicky)

I love this layer. Small is true to size. I can easily accomidate a baselayer under the deviator and easy to layer over. I've been wearing this layer for winter fat biking and skate skiing. Great wicking ability. I'd recommend zippered pockets. I just don't trust keepign anything in there. Also I'd remove the the adjusters in the pockets, they just look wierd... like I have something bumpy in my pocket. I don't use the tighterner and I wouldn't store my keys in there, even clipped in..

Best. Jacket. Ever. (Review by Kris Lucky Keys)

I have the pink one and have worn it to death, seriously. It is perfect for sitting at the computer, flying on planes, as a layer in my sleeping bag, hiking in the summer, as a second layer for cross-country skiing.I love the front pockets -- phone in one, lip balm and keys in the other -- and I put my money and credit cards in the chest pocket. My husband was so tired of seeing the pink jacket on me that he got me the blue one, too, so there is a little more variety in my wardrobe.

Love it (Review by alli)

I love love love this piece. I am 5'8" and 127lbs and ordered an XS. It fits snug, but comfortably (easy to layer on top of) and every time I wear it I get compliments.

Great Jacket! (Review by culvie)

I love this jacket! I wear this layer when I'm trail running, ski touring, rock climbing and around town. It fits great under a shell for warmth, or an a stand alone piece in cool conditions. The polartec helps wick moisture away when pushing hard and sweating, and the insulations keeps you warm when you stop. I love having the thumb holes!!! Also the waist drawstrings help to keep snow out and heat in! A great layering piece.

Just a few flaws but not minor (Review by JaneBond)

I am surprised at the rave reviews this jacket has gotten. I love OR products and have other great jackets, etc. from them. I got this jacket in grey and boy, is it dumpy-looking (first minor flaw). More importantly, on a cold run this morning (20s, feels like single digits), I wore a Craft baselayer underneath. That's it. Was fine, temp-wise but (next two flaws) could hardly get the jacket over the baselayer - it got stuck in the sleeves; and when I got home and took the jacket off, I was soaked. Other OR (and other brand) winter running/active jackets breathe and wick better. Still, a decent jacket and everyone else (who buys it) loves it (also wish the waist pockets zipped).

Fantastic! (Review by Dina)

I thought this fit true to size. I normally wear an XS and ordered an XS. I've been wearing it for the last 3 months consistently as a midlayer. It's warm and wicks well during activities. And I love the bright green color. Thanks OR for another fantastic product

warmer than it looks! (Review by Meg)

I read the reviews before ordering so I went up a size. I am 5'6" and 120 lbs. I ordered a medium. I have just the right amount of space to add some fitted layers underneath and not have it fit tight. it was -13 this morning and I ran with a tank top, synthetic warmth layer and the deviator hoody. perfect!
It does feel strange that the pockets wouldn't have zippers, but with the design and angle of the pockets, my iPhone did not fall out and it was easy to get to with frozen fingers. so, I would have to say that the pockets are very well designed and do not need zippers.
oh and the green is beautiful!

Love the Colour! (Review by PlayOutsideMama)

I just love the bright green colour of this jacket. I am 5'6'' , 120lbs and have a small. It is a tight fit and wears nicely over a single layer. I got this just before the winter weather so it's been mostly a layer. It has a bit of a longer back which is awesome! I think in the summer I could wear it as my "go to" jacket. It does add that nice cozy warmth under my puffy in the cold weather.

Good Jacket (Review by Anna)

I got this jacket to use as a lightweight layering piece or stand alone in warmer weather for hiking, backcountry skiing, and climbing. It is surprisingly warm and looks great. One thing I have noticed is when I am trying to layer over a wool or similar base layer, the fabric gets stuck and bunches. This is only going to work for layering over short sleeves or a slick synthetic base. I agree with a few of the other reviewers about the pockets and an antimicrobial treatment. I am 5'6, 140 pounds and got the medium. It fits pretty trim, but just right for a mid layer.

Love this jacket! (Review by Em)

My favourite piece right now. Couldn't be happier with it. Fits well and packs down small. Wicks moisture and keeps you warm.

Perfect Active Jacket (Review by Wats)

This jacket is so great that someone knicked it from me at an airport. The Deviator Hoody rapidly became my go-to jacket this summer for biking, climbing, hiking, and every day wear. I wouldn't leave home without it! Three of the friends that I climb with (2 guys and 1 girl) also own it and love it, it's just a great all around jacket. Just ordered a replacement, hopefully the new owner is enjoying it as much as I did!

I like Trisha's suggestion in a previous review for an antimicrobial treatment, mine did not smell great.

Perfect Hybrid in any Weather (Review by Trisha)

I recently spent two weeks hiking in the Swiss Alps, and this was my go-to jacket. I started each hike wearing this jacket alone or under a hard shell, depending on the weather. The waffle construction of the back paired with a pack that had a mesh ventilated back panel prevented a soggy back. The light insulation in the front is just enough for high aerobic pursuits in cool weather. The thumb loops fit well. Two issues I would fix: (1) Treat with an antimicrobial product - the jacket tends to smell after high output activities, and (2) The pockets could be better - fasteners for the hand warmer pockets and add a mesh interior pocket to hold passes and other documents. Otherwise, this is a perfect active jacket for cool weather pursuits!

Live in Hoody (Review by Brookey)

The Deviator Hoody is a versatile and super comfy layer that I wear constantly. I wear it climbing, hiking, camping, at work, and home. It is so comfortable that I never want to take it off. It is a lighter version of my R1 from Patagonia, but a full zip and a little more versatile in the warmer and shoulder months. I am 5'9" and weigh 127 pounds. It is a trimmer fit than my other OR clothing and because I want to use it as a midlayer and summer outer layer, I sized up to a medium, but I usually wear a small in OR. I have a long torso and it hits me at mid hip. Well worth the money!
