Great gloves, with a flaw

The best combination of fit and insulation I've found in years of buying, losing and wrecking gloves and mittens, but . . . the liners have more tears than they do fingers after not quite a year of use. The liners fit, grasp and flex really well for transitions between up and down skiing in the backcountry, but they are also allergic to handling metal edges and other hardware. I'm buying a replacement pair (really do like them) and hoping that maybe OR has strengthened the liner fabric,

Best Mitts on the market

I'm on my fourth pair of these in the last 10 years and they are a killer Mitt. Keep my hands warm at any temp, I live in Montana and I ski alot of days with subzero temps and my hands never get cold. I would recommend for anyone looking for a warm comfortable Mitt. Removable liner is also a good bonus feature.

This product is excellent for keeping my hands warm skiing

The mitts keep my hands warm while skiing all conditions

Shells are amazing, liners not so much.

I bought these mittens with high hopes for skiing on the frigid east coast (Vermont). I have always struggled with cold extremities for skiing, and gravitated towards the Baker as the most extreme in OR's lineup. I almost always use disposable hand warmers. Unfortunately, I find that these mittens even with hand warmers are not very warm. The issue is that the liner is an insulated glove, not a mitten. My fingers are kept apart so they are unable to keep eachother warm. Furthermore, the built-in hand warmer pocket is above the back of your palm not your fingertips, so the only way i've found to warm up my figers is to pull them out of the glove liner, pull the had warmer into the glove liner, and squeeze them on the lift ride up. I'm currently shopping for new mitten liners, and will continue using the awesome Baker Shells as intended. I'm pretty sure these would be amazingly warm if only OR made the liners a mitten rather than a glove.

Too large

Please make these available in extra small. Would be perfect!!!!

Seems good!

I bought these mittens for winter commuting. I am waiting for the temperature to drop enough that I feel that I need them. They seem like they will well!

Best Alpine Mitts I've Ever Had

Best Alpine Mitts I've Ever Had. Shells are tough enough for belaying. Easy to use leashes, well placed harness loops, easy to remove shell and use glove for knots, etc. Warm and light weight.

Slaaaaay queen!

I've recently moved to the PNW and needed a pair of warm, super dry modular mitts for my hands that often get colder than my group mates while touring, resort riding, or snow-camping. These mitts are the answer. They are warm as the Sahara, feature synthetic insulation (perfect for up here) and the outer mitt is confidence inspiring in the wettest conditions

Solid and warm

Super warm, tough, good tether, warmer pouch is nice. Only con is that the liners feel a bit baggy even though the mitts feel right. Maybe size down a bit.

Very warm and...kinda durable

These mittens are overall a great purchase. The outside shells (5 stars!) are very durable gortex that have held up really well and kept snow, ice, and spilled water out. The palms are not leather, but seem to be nicely reinforced. The various closure systems should come familiar to anyone that owns alpine oriented OR gloves and work great. My only complaint is that they are a touch big. I think they could be smaller and still allow full loft in the insulation. The gloved liners, which add all the warmth do their job nicely when it comes to insulating, but that's about it (3 stars). The only closure strap is around the cuff, which contributes to holding the warm air in, but doesn't really keep it in place on your hand. I think if this strap were around the wrist like the mittens, it would help dexterity. They also have very little reinforcement and in the wrong places. There is some leather-type material on finger-pad area, but none on the finger-tips, where you are going to get the most wear. You must be very careful when using these gloves on much of anything or the material will tear. Overall, they do a nice job keeping your hands warm, and the modular design is nice when you need more dexterity. Just be VERY careful with those gloves!
