Warm lightweight jacket.

I used this to hike in the moderate winters at Tahoe. It's perfect for 20-30F weather. Light rain is no problem for this jacket and I like the flexibility. The couple things I will say; it's more of an athletic fit. Check the waist measurements. And the breathability could be better. I had to remove the jacket after 10 minutes of hiking in 40F weather.

Perfect weight, loft, and warmth. My new perfect jacket!

Perfect spring and summer jacket. Perfect as a warmer mid layer. Warm and dry. Like a wearable warm blanket on those camping days.

Solid gear

Solid later to throw on when you stop moving, or a good later for cooler temps

It looked like the old uberlayer when I first saw the pic, but this is far tougher on the outside. Very wind resistant, handled light snow and rain well. On the flip side it doesn't breathe anything like the Uber, and does better as a top layer in poor and cold weather. Wore it on a bluebird day, and to be honest it didn't breathe that great and I was too toasty until the wind kicked in during the afternoon and it was just right. Could be worn with a light layer underneath to freezing conditions easily. With the strong outer layer I didn't feel the need to baby this at all, it's pretty tough. Not very stretchy, quite stiff at first but it does break in some. I'm 6'4" 225-235 depending on season, generally lean. I'm a XL tall if it's available (hint hint...:)), I find OR often leans to me being a XXL for length (I've got a long torso) but it often makes it too baggy in the middle. This one was snuggish in the arms/shoulders at XXL, though it has broken in and become better that way. Is a little baggy in the middle, but not to the point of thinking I should return it. I would say consider sizing up, but I'm not an ideal OR fit like many people on here are. I like it. Tough, versatile, surprisingly warm for it's weight if you can find the right fit. Wish more colors were in XXL. PLEASE make Cobalt in XXL!

I love the jacket. Good fit and windproof. Would buy it agai

I use it every day but also when I do say hikes or am camping. Great jacket

great jacket

i use this jacket backpacking, stay warm down to 30 degrees, very water resistant, light, good alternative to a down jacket as it is more durable and water resistant

Very nice!

The start of the main zipper could be improved. Looking forward to bad weather to really test the coat in.

I love it!

Pro level quality

I used to be a down purist. Since the growth of the quality of insulation like that in the Refuge (or BD's version) I'm more inclined to choose an insulating layer for any outdoor activity which will increase sweat from physical exertion - winter hiking, humping patrol sleds uphill, digging tower pads, etc. The Refuge is well made, firs5 quality, and does what it is supposed to do (keep me warm!).

Good Jacket

This is a good jacket. Construction and materials appear to be up to the usual Outdoor Research quality. While the sleeves and waist length are good, the jacket is a tad snug in my chest and shoulder area when zipped. Not enough to exchange for a larger size though. It will be perfect to wear under a larger jacket when temps get below freezing, or on warmer days when I can wear it unzipped.

Hi :) Will large in the refuge fit the same as large in the cathode? I loved my cathode and wore >300 days but finally left and lost on a plane :(

the refuge has a little more weight and a slightly heavier feel and thickness, however your sizing should remain true to your original cathode, sorry to hear of that loss

I'm looking for a jacket for backpacking this winter. Mostly in the smokey mountains. I need a jacket that's breathable when hiking but also warm on cold nights at camp which of your jackets fill this role the best I like the refuge and the ferosi winter. Which of these is warmer?

Josh, the refuge would be a warmer option, as it will dry faster then the winter ferrosi, and the winter ferrosi is a heavy option, hoping this helps dial in a winner.
