RATING AND REVIEWS

Finally a breathable shell

5

I got exactly what I needed for muggy South Carolina weather. Humidity provides the proving ground for breathability here. I kept waiting for the inside of the jacket to start getting damp, never happened. I'm very pleased. Only downside is the finicky zipper that other mentioned. The pros far outweigh the single con.

Best jacket I've ever had

5

After getting this jacket for my friend as a graduation present and seeing how awesome it was in all conditions, I had to get one for myself. He and I are constantly in awe of how awesome this jacket is. He and I are always outside, running, biking, climbing, kayaking, winter backpacking on backcountry skis, nordic skiing, you name it and we probably do it. Everywhere we go we both take them with us. I once found myself running up a mountain above 11,000 feet in a hail, lightning, and thunderstorm (I was actually looking for a group of lost hikers, otherwise, I would not have been running up it). The entire time I was laughing at how comfortable I was (outside of burning lungs and of course the concern for the lost hikers). Even in a hail storm with the torrential downpour and a high amount of exertion the jacket kept me dry while also not getting overheated. I am extremely impressed with the durability and the breathability of the jacket. As with anything else, maintenance is key to the performance and longevity of the product, always use a waterproofing cleaner and waterproofer, never wash without (I recommend Nikwax products). Choose this jacket and you won't be sorry. NOTE: with the help of search and rescue I was able to find the lost hikers safe and sound.

Outstanding

Just picked this jacket up, absolutely love it. Took it out in a rainstorm in Northern California and it held up perfectly, waterproof and breathable. Ordered a large, great fit (6'4 200 lbs), arms are long enough, trim fit so layering underneath could be a challenge

The only hard shell you'll need!

5

This jacket not only looks good, it feels good. Every little detail about it is great. I wear this with pride! (I'm working on diminishing my ego.. working on it) I'm going to use my Axiom for years. This is the only shell you'll need!

Awesome!

This is an awesome jacket!! It is super lightweight and breaths pretty well thanks to the gore-tex active. This jacket still holds a little condensation and needs vented with the front zipper. The jacket is also pretty durable. I haven't had any problems with it brushing up against branches and brush. This make a great jacket for ultra light packing and even bike commuting! I'm still waiting for OR to fix the breaking wire brim problem on all of their jackets. Otherwise this is an awesome hoodie!!

Well built, with great warranty

4

This jacket is waterproof as expected. It is built really well: I'm not worried about handling it gently. Great for climbing in less than stellar weather. The wire brim in the hood broke and tore the fabric, but ORs fantastic warranty replaces the jacket for me. Be aware of sizing. It is on the small side in the shoulders and chest. Normally wear small but went with medium, which has enough room for a mid layer.

Fantastic lightweight shell

5

This jacket is very comfortable and lightweight. Great form and fit for a 5'10" 155 lb. guy. Med. - true to size. It's a valuable purchase and is my go to jacket for wet days, year round in Wyoming. Plenty of room for layers below. I'm not so sure about the durability of the Gore-tex active (?) but it weighs less.

Great versatile jacket

5

This jacket is great for all activities. I used it during alpine, XC skiing, winter climbing, multiple day SUP paddles, cycling etc.. I had some moments during heavy downpours and kept me dry and warm. It's also quite light and compact for a Gor-Tex jacket.. Quality is superior has like other OR gear. The black/hydro blue color also looks sharp.

Best Rain Jacket I've Owned!

5

As My first Outdoor Research purchase back in 2013 i was skeptical about spending this amount of money on a rain shell but had plans to be outside hiking and traveling so I needed one to keep my layers dry. I bit my tongue and bought it and now 3 years later its still my go too rain jacket. I love how flexible the material is and all the adjustments throughout the jacket (hood, wrist cuffs, waist) Whether its just raining or wind is blowing the rain sideways this jacket stays in place and is very breathable! Another plus for me is that the stow pocket is large enough to fit this jacket in without straining or cramming and it also has a little extra space to where i can fit my rain pants in the pocket as well. Best investment I've made on a rain jacket! If i could give it more stars i would. Check out our Blog: LifesNextAdventures.com

sweeet

The other 5-star reviews here have highlighted the positives: impermeability, flexibility, feel, and breathability... all great. I thought I'd be specific about fit for those who are thinking of buying. I am 5'10.5, 180-185ish, and have a short torso for my height, but a wide-ish chest. I'm 42 chest, or 43.5 when flexing. I also have a 32 waist but an extra large rear end. I have a Medium and it JUST fits. In the chest it's trim but comfortable, and the tightest place is actually around my hips. This jacket cinches around your hips if they are substantially wider than your hips. That being said, I love it. It cinches but doesn't ride up as a result--it stays neatly in place without being stiff. The material is awesome, rugged but malleable. I cannot fit more than base layers and a single non-lofty layer underneath (an OR exit hoody in fact). But even when tight, the jacket is not awkward or restrictive. It's formed well to keep out blowing snow and wind, and it has stood up to multiple days now of rolling around in thick, melting snow after the Jan '16 blizzard on the east coast. Great stuff.
