Let’s be honest: Even if you’re doing it right, alpine climbing can be kind of miserable. It’s physically demanding, it’s cold, it’s wet, it’s windy. If you take care of preparing for the first of those four things, the Bolin Jacket will take care of the other three. Building on the same technology of our award-winning Realm Jacket, this tough guy brings a few more features to the table: hand pockets above your harness or pack waistbelt, a fully adjustable hood, and beefier 70-denier AscentShell fabric on the shoulders, arms and hood.

This jacket is great!!!

This is an all around good jacket. I'm 6'1 @180 and I selected a large. It fits nice. I typically Ware this when I'm out and about and hit a downpour. It keeps me dry, also in the winter I throw a fleece on under it and it keeps me warm.

A waterproof hardshell that feels like a soft shell

This jacket might have ruined soft shells for me. It breathes every bit as well as my fancy/expensive soft shell from another brand while weighing less and compressing smaller. My body temperature is usually on the hot side, but this thing breathes wonderfully even without pit zips. Because it's so thin and lightweight, I was skeptical of the waterproofness, but it held up to an absolute multi-hour downpour on a recent work trip to the Southeast. The Large is a snug but comfortable fit (the stretchy fabric is a huge bonus) for me at 6'0" and 185lbs. I love it so much I almost bought a second when I saw it the red version on deep discount. (I own the blue.) It's held up to months of mountaineering in Colorado, and I can't wait to use it for ice season.

Great fit, comfortable jacket

I am a slim guy and it fits great and has a svelte look.

Another Great Product

I love this jacket! The fit is perfect! The stretch and weight make this the perfect shell for the PNW, whether in the mountains or in the city.

Great Jacket, but way to "trim"

Great jacket, but had to return due to sizing, I am 6'1" 190lb, avid swimmer and kickboxer, suit jacket size of 44R Arm length was perfect and jacket length overall worked well, but chest, shoulders, back, and arms were ridiculously small and tight and the length of the jacket and tightness at the bottom kind of limited leg mobility. Jacket would definitely fit dudes with a more marathon runner/cycling physique, perfectly, just not me. Again, great jacket, but just a heads up about the "trim" size of Outdoor Research

Great stuff!

So far so good. Used the jacket once during a hike in the Cascades. There was a light rain for ~2hrs of the hike and the jacket performed well. I didn't overheat climbing or descending. The jacket is breathable and easy to move in. The fit is a little weird across the shoulders though, a bit tight. Not a big deal but something to keep in mind. For reference, I'm 6ft, 165lbs and I ordered a medium. Fit on the arms, torso, and length were fine. Overall, I'm very pleased and excited to use it more!

Excellent fit

It has a very trimmed fit, which works perfect for me but it may not be for everyone. Haven't yet had the chance to put it through wringer but so far it has done its job well. Feels well made and the red color is far better looking in person!

Great rain jacket, but for the slim

I am 5;10 and 180 lbs. I own the large. While I was once slim, those days are gone. This jacket covers lower than the typical $100 rain / windbreaker type jackets. As a result, if you have a slight belly, it will make it stick out a little. I feel like it compares to the difference between an "athletic fit" of button down shirts. It has a zipper at both ends, so if you think your belly sticks out, you can unzip the bottom and things will be fine. I bought this jacket on a significant sale. So comparing this jacket at the sale price point, it is incredible as it is far superior to the other other lightweight packable rain jacket i own. I wore this jacket on a full day of amusement park activities where it rained all day. No issue with it at all. Pockets are reinforced. Seems durable.

Great Jacket, weird sizing

This coat has a real slim fit, I generally get a medium with most OR products but this one is slimmer and so if you plan on wearing anything substantial underneath this shell (micropuff, another jacket) forget about it. I ended up returning the medium and getting a large, which is way too long in the arms and around the waist.... still I will keep this jacket because its light, breathable, and feels rather durable.

Keeps you dry!

Used this thing for several different things now, from working outside to standing in the rain and it has been great.

Bolin jacket...does it have handwarmer pockets?? I don't see any in any photos. Thanks

Hi Dave, It has two zippered hand pockets. Thanks for contacting OR,

I just purchased the Bolin jacket and so far very happy but for one thing, I see it's a trim fit jacket and the large fits almost perfectly except it's very snug around my stomach. My question is would I be better off with and Extra Large jacket or does the jacket come in a Standard Large?

Hi Clark, The XL will help with the fit in the stomach (has a 3" bigger waist and sweep), however, the jacket overall will be larger as a result of increasing the size. Thanks for contacting OR,

Is this a hard shell or soft shell?

Hi Matt, This is a hard shell jacket. Thanks for contacting OR, Paul
