Lightweight and Well Made

I received this jacket as a gift and so far have only worn it on a rainy Oregon summer evening. It performed well, although I did work up a bit of a sweat walking up hills with just a t-shirt on underneath. I like it because it's very lightweight and will pack well for upcoming summer and fall travel. The fit is good, and it also seems roomy enough to add some layers for cooler weather.

I would buy the jacket again.

I work in rain and cold and this jacket is perfect. I purchased Helium pants last year and they make a good combination.

Great Stylish Jacket

I got the jacket and the first time i used it was in the Smoky Mountains. During my time out there, everyday i went hiking it downpoured. i thought it was the perfect opportunity to try out my new jacket. first off, it compress super small and easy to pack and forget about. so i put it on while on the trail for the first time. fits perfect, super lightweight and breathable and very stylish. i had a backpack on and over time the rain was able to permeate the jacket and wet my back. Mind you this is GORTEX and it comes with a HUGE tag that says "GUARANTEED TO KEEP YOU DRY". well that day it didn't. this is most likely due to the tiny pores on GORTEX fabric and the pressure from the backpack helping it push the water through. But other than that, i am very happy with the jacket. i'd recommend it to anyone.

Solid piece of gear

Got this for our spring rain and boy did it help. Was dry with no issues. Water beads off well and didn't sweat with the heat.

The perfect year round Jacket!

I wear this jacket all year! It is a great lightweight rain jacket that is easy to move around in during the Spring, Summer and Fall. I breathes well while providing great protection from the elements. In the Winter, it becomes a great backcountry ski layer. I have worn it in wet coastal snowpacks in AK and cold morning starts in the Green Mountains. Its easy to pack away when you peel a layer and packs small. Its the only jacket I wear year round. I have tried others and none match the versatility of the Foray. It just works!

2.5 Stars. Nice jacket, but DWR finish is nil.

Bought in May 2019. I am of two minds about this jacket. I like the weight, fit, Gore Tex, and features. But...the DWR is a miss. Other reviews have complained about the DWR finish and it wetting out very early. (See SleepingBagBoy, Drue, JustVu, Chris (from Quebec), chrispy, B (from CA), etc.) I had the same experience. First use ever was for a 30 minute walk in the rain. It had wetted out substanially in several areas before I got back. Gore Tex is Gore Tex, so I was dry, but the DWR was minimal right out of the box. Perhaps there a problem in the manufacturing or something. I will likely keep it and re-treat it, run it in the dryer, and/or live with it. (I would return for a refund if I paid full price. See below.) The ventilation zips will likely remedy any condensation that happens from the wetout. But if a working DWR finish is important to you, keep looking. I bought mine at a 40% discount on the OR site, so maybe they have discounted the problem lot, but that's just my speculation. Or maybe they're discontinuing my color (naval blue/dusk). Sizing is normal. I'm 6' 1" and 160 pounds. I wear a medium in almost every outdoor brand, same is true here. It seems made to wear a layer underneath.

Light, versitile and packable waterproof jacket.

Very light and packable with the added benefit and reliability of GoreTex. Very soft and supple fabric but the zipper tends to snag though.

Good for women also !

I am a woman and I think the Aspire women's coat was too tight at the shoulders. The Foray Men's Jacket is wider at the shoulders, but tighter at the waist than the women's coat. I really like this coat ! Only think I have to say : the zipper is a little bit tough to use.

Do your rain jackets come in extra large tall

we do not yet offer a call out tall sizing, sorry we couldn't accommodate that but we might find a good fit for you, give us a ring in customer service or email [email protected] for help with direct sizing

Does the Forey jacket have a DWR finish?

it does the new PFCEC Goretex paclite fabric has an DWR coating to provide added water resistance on the surface of the jacket.

There is a strap with velcro inside the foray jacket. What is its purpose? How is it used?

You can use it to stow the hood by rolling up the hood, threading the tab through the loop on the opposite side, and fastening the tab back onto itself.

How do you roll the hood? I can't get it to lay flat and be comfortable. Thanks.

Start at the brim and fold the hood inward in ~2" segments until you're able to thread the velcro tab on the inside of the jacket through the loop on the outside and fasten it back onto itself.

What is the sleeve length for the Foray Jacket?

The Foray Jacket in size L has a sleeve length of 36.5"; subtract an inch for each size smaller; add an inch for each size larger.

What type of Gore-tex is used on this jacket?

The Foray Jacket uses Gore-Tex PacLite.
