RATING AND REVIEWS

Best light weight jacket I have owned

5

I love this jacket! The color is super fun and it packs down so small, I always have it handy. It has kept me very dry and warm in some wet Northwest spring and summer days. It is my go to - for fun and fashion!

Super light and packable

On a recent rainy bike trip, the jacket let me dry and was not too warm. Very light and packable.

This jacket in unbelievable!

5

This is an extremely light and packable rain jacket/wind shell. The only detriment is that the material is very light and if it gets snagged on branch or thorn it may tear or cause the material to have a hole. That is tradeoff that is worth making though as you can pack this jacket and always have it with you.

Nice Jacket

I got this jacket for my runs in the mornings. I decided to get this jacket becasue we were having rain every day, however it has not rain since I got this jacket. I love the quality and the lightness of it. I am looking forward to wearing in when it finally gets back to rain here and test the breathability, but as always and as expected from OR, the comfort, packability and ease to take anywhere is firts class. I would recomend this jacket.

Fantastic Summer Raincoat

5

Wore this jacket on backpacking trips in both Colorado and Vermont. Held up great to the torrential downpours in New England and a hail storm at 12,000' in the Rockies. Love how rainproof it is and also how lightweight. I was worried that without pit zips I'd overheat but that wasn't an issue at all. Packs down super small in my pack. I bought a small to wear over a t shirt and a medium to wear in slightly colder weather when I need to wear a puffy underneath. The chest on the small is a perfect fit with a t-shirt but tight with any layers. I'm a short muscular guy 5'4" 140#. The sleeves were a little long but the elastic around the wrists keeps them from being annoying. All in all, I'm super into this jacket - considering buying one for my whole staff of backpacking instructors.

Best light weight breathable rain jacket out there

5

The Helium i jacket served me for hundreds on mountain trail miles in precipitation and wind. Just updated to Helium ii and it has all the exact same qualities just updated. If you want light weight protection from the elements in all four seasons this it the way to go.

Ultralight pocket-sized rain protection.

5

This jacket is fantastic! I've used the Helium II for the past several years. Whether it is during a rainy commute to or from work, or a scrambling up a fourteener; this jacket is the lightweight rain protection you need. I've used it everywhere from a rainstorm in the city, to pairing it with a down puffy to extend my layering system down below freezing. And this jacket stands up to the test. The only issue I see people having us with it's length. It stops right at my waist. Some people might want it to be a little longer to provide a little more coverage. For me, I recognize that this doesn't detract from the function and saves a small amount of weight. All in all, it's a great jacket!

PNW perfection

Ive been riding my mtn bike with this jacket for about a week now. i have worn it when it is drizzling, not raining sunny and cool and in a steady rain shower. It is waterproof so you will have a slight clammy feeling wearing this while exerting some cardio effort. It is not even close to as bad as a full on heavy raincoat. The amazing thing is that once you start a decent or have a wind the material is breathable just enough to dry things out inside. This is as close to perfect rain/breathable lightweight protection Ive used yet. I can't speak to durability yet, but so far it has been stuck by thorns and they didn't rip through the fabric. Seems pretty good for as light as it is. Lightweight. Fits into itself and stuffs into the backpacker of my bibs or bike jersey......perfect. Fit. Im 6'3" tall 200 lbs more slim than broad and bought an XL. The fit is roomy, but good. the Large i tried also fit, but was more athletic slim. Probably could go either way, but I was going to use this for more than just biking.

not a quality rain jacket

Jacket did not hold up in five minutes of rain; oddly, my arms got wet. Is not windproof and does not protect against any weather that will come your way. I do not recommend this jacket, unfortunately, now I'm stuck with it.

I am 5'7", 200lbs, 45" chest, 18" neck, 33" sleeve, 37" waist. Your product does not indicate sleeve length. I am thinking of XL. What would you suggest?

Rob

Hi Rob, If you plan on layering underneath the jacket a size XL may be best. The sleeve length of the jacket is 37.75", it is measured from the center back neck seam to the center of the cuff (straight measurement). Thanks for contacting OR,

Paul

Hey There, I have a Helium II, and love it! It seems that it is aging (to be expected given the use it gets) and the water does not quite roll off it the way it did when it was new. Do you recommend any sort of waterproofing spray, or wash treatment, to bring new life to my jacket? Thank you!

Kurt

Hi Kurt, Have you washed the item recently? Washing your waterproof gear can drastically improve its performance, as oil, dirt, and grime can actually clog the fabric's pores, causing the fabric to absorb moisture instead of repel moisture. Try washing your jacket with a tech wash (we recommend Nikwax Tech Wash) and following up with a double rinse and tumble dry on low. The heat of the dryer works to reactivate the fabric's DWR, increasing water repellency. You may also try Nikwax TX.Direct Wash-In to revive the water repellent properties. If the problem persists then you may have a defective jacket, which we would be happy to replace. Please keep us updated and thanks for contacting OR! Paul

Have this jacket and love it- but the repellancy seems to be wearing off. What's the recommended waterproofing? (nikwax wash, revivex spray. Etc?)

Try washing your jacket with a tech wash (Nikwax) and following up with a double rinse and tumble dry on low. The heat of the dryer works to reactivate the fabric's DWR, increasing water repellency. Good morning, I was wondering if this jacket is pretty shinny or a mat colour? Thank you

Oct

The Pertex Shield Plus fabric we use in our Helium series is a bit reflective - definitely more "shiny" than "matte."

Jordan

How shinny is the coyote brown? Or is it more of a mat colour?

Oct

The fabric on all of our Helium jackets is a little bit reflective, regardless of the color.

Jordan

what is the length of the Helium II in size M? neck seam to hem i suppose.

Thomas

The Men's Helium II Jacket in size Medium has a center back length of 27.5".

Jordan

What is the best way to renew my helimum II jacket's water repellent as my jacket is no longer as water proof as it used to be..

Martin

Try washing your jacket with a gentle, non-residue-leaving detergent like Nikwax Tech Wash and follow up with an extra rinse cycle and tumble dry on medium. After you wash the jacket, you could also use an aftermarket DWR like Nikwax TX.Direct to revitalize the jacket's water repellent coating. Both of these steps should make your jacket noticeably more waterproof.
