RATING AND REVIEWS

Good pants for Alaskan summertime missions

5

Nothing less than expected, I've always had excellent products from outdoor research. Got caught in a rainstorm on an alpine hike and they kept me dry. Good product might be a little warm for sunny days, perfect for 50-60 degree days.

Great pants

4

I got these pants for spring/summer mountaineering and ski touring and have been stoked so far. I'll be honest, I wasn't entirely sure I wanted to fork over so much on a pair of softshell pants for skiing since I had some baggy softshell freeride pants built for hard inbounds use all winter, but in the end am happy I did. I've worn them standing around practicing crevasse rescue in light rain, on a few multiday trips, and walking around town in 70 weather after skiing and they worked. They dry amazingly quick and handle light rain/rolling around in snow well and are super comfy. They've become my go to spring touring pant and definitely be my pant for any backpacking/camping trip where the weather might be cool and damp. Downsides: they're long (which is only a downside when not in ski boots, but can be remedied by rolling them up), no vents - which would be nice while going uphill when it's hot, no I wouldn't trust them as my only layer if it looks cold and truly wet - I'd bring shells, no I wouldn't ski resort in them. Some of the stitching came loose in the crotch after the first 4 days (4 day ski touring trip wearing a harness), but so far it appears like a minor cosmetic flaw. They've so far held up quite well to crampons.

Buy 'Em, They're Sweet

4

I bought these for my husband as a birthday gift. He loves them so far. The length is great and the medium size was only just slightly snug on his waist (He's normally a 32 waist). If you're planning to layer you may want to order your normal size and a size larger to compare fits. It is also worth noting that the adjustable waist will only help you tighten the pants, not make them larger than the advertised size. This is what my husband says: "They're not as thick as I expected. They're not just a Winter pant, I can wear them in Spring and Fall too. Also, they're incredibly stretchy. The only thing I dislike are the mesh pockets. They're weird... I feel like I'm going to rip through them." All that said... I still plan to buy a pair of Women's cirque pants for myself. So there you have it - these pants are sweet!

The quality seems amazing so far. All stitching and hems are immaculate! The stretch area in the groin region is very comfortable when walking, climbing and hiking.

Would recommend

4

love these pants, they breath good and shed snow. The fit is great for me, 5'8" 145lbs, not too long, not too baggy. Only improvement could maybe make the pockets larger and add some leg zips for shedding heat.

Great for active mountain pants

4

I've had a pair of these for about 3 seasons. I've tended to often leave them at home in place of my hard-shells, but recently completed the Haute Route from Chamonix to Zermatt over 8 LONG consecutive days of touring and mountaineering and decided to go with these for the stretch, comfort, and breathability. They performed fantastically for this purpose. They're definitely not designed for super cold days, sitting on chairlifts, or rain; but when moving far and fast, these were great. Not wind-proof, but resistant enough, not water-proof, but fine in snow or a light shower. I wore these over a mid-weight smartwool layer and when moving, they were great to the low teens in temps and perfectly fine in heavy wind. I highly recommend for an active pant. Pack these with a pair of waterproof Helium pants for when weather takes a harsh turn and you're golden.

Hi, I am a guy who is 5" 11 and 178pounds who usually wears 33 waist and 32 length. What size would you recommend if I'm going to wear a base layer underneath. Large or Medium?

Ara

I would go with the size large as the waist can be adjusted down and this will allow for layering. Hoping this helps dial in a good fit!

Kassie

Do the Cirque pants, or any soft shell pants, come in a long length?

kenny

at of yet we do not offer a call out long inseam in our soft shell insulated pants like the cirques, however we do have lightweight soft-shell long options in our ferrosi pants.

Kassie

I am 6'4" with a 32" waist and 34-36" inseam, will large be too baggy in the waist?

SkinnyB

The size large would be a bit baggy in the waist, but you can use the velcro side tabs to synch it down as needed, the issue is your inseam as the cirques all listed as a 33" inseam which might be to short for your needs unless you are wearing ski or mountaineering boots.

Q&A_Admi

Hi, what are specs for XXL size?

Steven

Hi Steven, A size XXL has a 42" waist, a 50" low hip measurement, and an inseam of 35". Thank for contacting OR,

Paul

I can't tell from your sizing whether I take a medium or small in this alpine pants. I want them for snow shoeing, light mountain climbling(18000 and below), tough, light weight, warm, but with good ventilation if exertion climbing, resistant to crampon cuts, flexible, and water and wind resistant. Any recommendations are welcome- please. These pants are for a male who is 5'7 and 150 lbs and has short legs with an inseam of 29 inches and waist of 32.

Gary

Hi Gary, A size Small has a waist measurement of 30" and increases 3" for each additional size up. The inseam measurement for a size Small is 31 and increases 1" for each additional size up. Based on your waist measurement we would recommend a size Medium. The pants have adjustable tabs at the waist or you may use a belt if the pants if there is too much room in the waist. If you needed an insulated version of this pant, consider the Alpenice Pants. Thanks for contacting OR,

Paul

What is the waist size of size small?

Victor

Hi Victor, The waist size is 30" for a Small, and increases 3" for each additional size up. Thanks for contacting OR,

Paul

How should these pants be washed/cleaned? Do they have a DWR coating that needs to be refreshed every now and then?

Caleb

Hi Caleb, Sorry for the late response. The Cirque pants do have a DWR coating that needs to be refreshed occasionally. We recommend either using a small amount of non-detergent soap (or technical wash), and following up with an extra rinse cycle and a low heat tumble dry cycle. We recommend using Nikwax Tech Wash and Softshell Proof, they sell it as a pack (Softshell DuoPack). Thanks for contacting OR, Paul

On the website, sizes are listed as S, M, L, XL. However, the Size and Fit Guide at the bottom of the page lists measurements in inches or centimeters. If I have a 36" waist and a 32" inseam, which size would you recommend I order?

Bob Labrie

Hi Bob, I would go with the Large. A size Large has a 36" waist and a 33" inseam measurement. If you needed more room to accommodate layering, a size XL has a 39" waist and 34" inseam. Thanks for contacting OR, Paul

I'm a 33" waist, 30" inseam. Should I buy a large?

Brandon

You're on the lower end of size Large, but you can use the velcro tabs on the sides to adjust the waist to fit.
